because it was such a big organisation, it was very easy for management to forget about the work your doing so very quick;ly you just becaome another employee as opposed to a valued member of the team

Pros

Large company with products that are in demand in good times and bad. They make products that people use quite frequently and add to the quality of their lives. The company was very serious about employee safety (to the point of going way overboard, at least at the Reading plant).

Cons

The paints division was recently bought by Akzo Nobel and the Reading, PA plant was closed. Many people were laid off and few were offered positions within the company. The Reading plant is now a heap of rubble. I don't know anything about Akzo Nobel, so I can't comment on them.

Pros

Salary and flexibility. That's about it.

Cons

Layoffs. I was laid off after 7 years. All that was said that was my job was "eliminated". It turned out to be the best thing that has ever happened. I now work for a key competitor that is truley a first class organization that has a business plan for today, tomorrow, and the future. ICI has NO CLUE when it comes to selling and supplying paint to customers. Home Depot is their biggest customer with tons of opportunity, yet their sales are on a steady decline year after year. I was told by numerous HD upper management that the product was "dying on a vine". And they were absolutely right. All I can say is THANK YOU ICI.
