Very Fast Growing & Changing Company (maybe too fast for their own good)

Pros

Pro’s: • Many Great Wonderful People who work well together and support each other (unfortunately a few bad apples (managers) can really damper the morale) • Making numerous advances in infrastructure and systems • Very good benefits & Industry comparable pay *. Communication from the top down is good & there is a fairly good amount of transperancy by many (but not all) in the organization

Cons

Con’s: • The company is moving so fast in so many areas that Change Fatigue is a real thing and not understanding the potential impacts before & realized impacts after the changes are made is problematic. • Very high turnover & lack of effective onboarding. There have been many recent changes (within the past 1+ year) at the “CxO” level, changes within the organizational structure, and numerous changes in processes and procedures throughout & effecting the entire organization. • Many people are working unhealthy 80 hour weeks for months on end. The scrum teams are woefully understaffed. Many team members are consistently stressed and afraid of “underperforming” (e.g. not meeting unrealistic goals set by managers). • Some managers fully embrace the change to Scrum Agile methodology and others “just don’t get this Agile stuff and just want the work done.” The team may explain to stakeholders why something needs to be prioritized lower than something else & the manager will tell the stakeholders not to worry and then tell the team to get it all done. • Production Support is embedded in the scrum teams and every team member is expected to be on call to address after hours production support calls (even the PO’s need to be available). Problem: there is not near enough time allowed to be carved out for addressing production support issues in addition to new work. • When promotions to management are done from within, the managers are not properly trained in “how to manage” nor “how to prioritize” - defining everything as a #1 priority means nothing. More bothersome is that some managers simply do not have the personality nor temperament to manage people. If you get a good manager, all’s great; but if you get a poor manager, work is pure hell. • There is a lot of “local industry nepotism”, backstabbing and favoritism.

Pros

Good benefits, colleagues are genuinely friendly, remote work

Cons

Since the influx of new leaders from RaboBank, this company has lost its core culture and values. They claim they are working on Diversity and Inclusion and are led predominantly by white men. Look at the website to see if there is anything reflective of D&I. People do not feel like they are included or that they belong when your culture is to fire people who speak up or share feedback. They claim it is a healthy culture but they do not truly respect or value employees. They claim they are heading in a direction to support sustainability in ag and small farmers but are actually working to support growth in industrial Ag that will create a conglomerate in food systems. They are not about the employee, or the farmer but about revenue and being number 1 in the system. Their initiatives are unclear to almost everyone in the company and their mission is not true - they do not serve all segments of agriculture.

Pros

Pay and benefits are competitive, but have gone down in the past 2 years with new HR leadership. Remote flexibility is great and a really big positive.

Cons

The stuff that made this company special is gone with the new HR and top level leadership. People are no longer people here. Middle management is stressed out and feels unsure of expectations. Great leaders are disappearing either literally or because they don’t understand objectives and don’t have time for us. They’ll ask us to solve a problem independently, we’ll work on it for months - then there’s a full switch to make the work irrelevant. If we knew the high-level goals, we could help avoid wasting so much time. I don’t blame my manager for this. It comes from the top. There used to be empowerment on all levels - that’s gone. Basic expenses and additional support are hard to get approved now - penny pinching the day to day stuff that is needed for a positive work environment so the company can pay for an all-employee offsite feels totally out of touch. The culture used to be self-empowerment and positive movement towards change from all levels. Now it’s scare tactics with military speakers. I’m not the only one who feels obligated to go to the all-employee event. I’d rather get my work done and move the actual business forward to support our customers and my group.
