Pros

Benefits are good. You fly for free (standby) on American flights, and recieve a 90 percent discount on other airlines as well(standby too). Easy to make your own schedule, as long as there is a body to cover the shift, you can take as much time off as you need, or pick up as mnay hours as you want as well. Insurance is good for yourself, but gets expensive if have dependents.

Cons

Management is poor. Operations are so short staffed, you are doing the job of 10 people. Half the time there is no manager on duty, and if there is, they are usually incompetent to the problem. You will NEVER get praised for a job well done, but if you make one mistake, the consequences are very exteme. No opportunity to grow with the company unless you choose to move to one of the hubs..In order to see any significant pay, you have to put in 10 years of service, then you finally jump up to a whole 21.50/hr. Then you are "maxed out" which means, that is all the money you will ever make..no more pay raises..EVER. Travel benefits are good, but you are soo poor you cant ever utilize them...Also its stanby travel only, and the flights are ALWAYS full. If you do use your travel benefits, prepare for getting stuck in airports and stranded like Gilligan for days. The job is very stressfull. Prepare to get yelled and screamed at everyday by disgruntled passengers, and no support from management. Prepare to get extended for sometimes up to 5 hours past your shift, on a regualr basis. The enitre time you are on your feet, standing at the ticket counter, gate or in baggage..no chairs..and only a 30 minute lunch and 2 fifteen minute brakes, for an 8 hour shift. Or one 15 minute break if working less than 8 hours. Flights delay or cancel, everyday, and sometimes there is just you and one other person to rebook hundreds of people, and deal with all the stress that comes with it...not to mention all the lost and delayed luggage you have to deal with as well. With Dallas and Chicago being American Airlines hubs, you are dealing with weather problems all the time.

Pros

Great pay and benefits. Lots of opportunity to be creative. If you need time off it's easy to trade shifts with others.

Cons

Uniforms were not as nice as flight crew's.Could be more professional toward employees at the airport. Could use better communication between ground crew and agents.
