Pros

Fund a small amount of research

Cons

AHA recently changed their mission statement to include the word "relentless". AHA is relentless but not in a good way. Their passion is raising money period. The environment is manipulative, with high pressure tactics used to create a false sense of urgency. Turnover is insane but AHA doesn't care. They abuse and beat directors daily, sometimes hourly, to raise money with NO support and NO resources. Their 20 + year CEO draws almost 2 million a year plus management gets paid big bonuses when directors hit goal. They hire good people with a true passion for the mission then act as parasites using them up until they have nothing left to give, then they heartlessly move on to the next well meaning but gullible person. If you're looking for employment and think you want to do some good in your community, Please look somewhere else. This organization is NOT what they pretend to be. Check out the facts from an independent source not anything from heart.org. Only about 20-25% of the almost billion dollars raised actually goes towards research. Their highest line item is salaries and bonuses then real estate. Keep looking!!

Pros

The overall lifesaving mission of the AHA is commendable. Volunteers and survivors enjoy being a part of the AHA events and lives are impacted locally.

Cons

The corporation does not truly care about making an impact only raising money. There is constant pressure to always raise more, setting impossible goals and putting excessive pressure on staff when they are not achieving impossible goals. This is not a job for a person with a family who want to have work life balance. Although the message of the dangers of stress is common knowledge, it is hypocritical of the AHA to create such a stressful work environment for their employees.

Pros

Great volunteers, worthy mission, good pay for a non profit, great PTO and benefits

Cons

They hours are unbelievable, no work life balance, "mean girl" mentality management style, micromanaging atmosphere. There is no growth potential. There is never enough and the company has become greed driven.
