Pros

They pay well and have good benefits

Cons

The culture. Senior management inside the affiliate and at the national office lack management skills, strategic insight and foresight. They treat employees like interchangeable parts (don't make your numbers you are gone but never realize they are part of the issue).. Good question someone at national could ask...why do we keep having ups/downs in our fundraising even with all the staff turnover...you would think eventually you would get the right people....could that be the people at the top are the real issue, Take a look at all the good people they run off. The main issue in the SW affiliate is the EVP and the top EVP who oversees all the fundraising . Neither understands true business development and their fundraising practices are so outdated. It is a shame that an organization that prides itself on proper use of fundraising dollars allows the type of mismanagement of funds hat happens in this region. They book endless unnecessary trips to their markets and stay in hotels like the Four Seasons and Hotel ZaZa. They pay for all their meals too. On top of that, take a look at the financial documents since they are public and you will see they are very high paid...over half a million. Wouldn't that money be better served helping to eliminate heart disease. Donors should be upset by this.

We appreciate the time you took to share your experience working for the American Heart Association. We read every comment and review, because whether it’s a positive experience, or one that provides constructive criticism, we want to try to repeat our successes and make changes where we have not met other’s expectations. Please know that we value your experience. You may not be aware that the AHA diligently negotiates reduced nonprofit rates with major hotels, including those you mentioned; and that AHA business meals are reimbursed only during overnight business travel in accordance with IRS guidelines. We value every donor dollar and we go to great lengths to see that no financial waste occurs. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. - The AHA Talent Acquisition team.

Pros

1 week off during Holidays. Summer hours.

Cons

Poor Management . Very unethical & dishonest management. This was probably the most unprofessional & unethical company I have never seen. You would think this would be a wonderful place to work but don't be fooled. Employees are not appreciated at all and overworked . Although it is a 'health' organization, yours will not be taken into consideration. The stress level is very high and workers are over inundated. Ethics does not exist at all here. Accepting this position was a bad decision and a waste of time, especially since I turned down another offer to take it. Huge mistake. I would definitely not recommend working here. Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your time here.
