Pros

AHA has excellent benefits... better than many large for-profit companies! 401k (called a 403b in a nonprofit matching, pension, medical/dental/vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, PTO...

Cons

Mind-numbing micromanagement. Creativity stiffling environment. If you have any inkling of "out of the box, creative, blaze your own path" type of impact, run from this organization. Robotic, cookie-cutter, process-driven organization. This may be perfect for some folks, but not for folks who thrive in a true sales role.

Pros

The PTO is great. They give you Christmas Day - New Years Day off with pay. Great Health and Dental insurance premiums.

Cons

Non-Exempt employees only work 37.5 hours a week. They give you a solid hourly rate, but then you find out you work 37.5 hour work weeks which decreases your salary significantly. High turnover! The office has about 50 employees. Every 3 month 3 - 6 people either quit or get terminated. Literally half of the staff from 2015 is gone.

Pros

Nice benefits. Everyone gets the week of Christmas off. The volunteers you work with are amazing. Meeting and working with heart survivors is very rewarding. The mission and research are on point.

Cons

If you have worked as a fundraiser, this job isn't for you. You will realize that the job is more about sales than fundraising. The skills and ideas that you bring in are not welcome. There is a set way of doing things, so there is no room for you to be creative or innovative. Only a select number of YMDs are allowed to have a voice. If you're not a favorite of management, you need to keep your mouth shut and do what you are told. The micromanaging is horrible. The turnover is insane. The morale is low. There is zero work life balance. The job has changed a lot from when I started, and not for the better. Hours have increased, more travel is expected, goals have become unattainable, and we are pressured into asking more and more of the schools that we work with. The good news is that you get a bonus if you make your goal. The bad news is that you get written up or fired if you don't. I loved this job when I first started, but the last couple of years have really turned me off. The strategies and tactics that we are expected to carry out have started to feel dirty.
