Pros

The students are smart and mature and willing to learn. The program directors are invested in your growth as a teacher and have your back.

Cons

The administrative side is actively exploitative and feels malicious. There is no contract, promotions often don't register, there is bureaucracy at every turn. I got hired in the middle of a protest due to faculty member not having received raises in 10 years. Meanwhile there are sports cars parked in the garages...

Pros

Inspiring work helping students. Excellent retirement plan contribution.

Cons

Incredibly high staff turnover. I expected more than 2 weeks of leave per year as I have 12 years of experience, and they do not close for Veteran’s Day nor Indigenous People’s Day. Long hours are the norm because there isn’t enough staff to do all of the jobs. Under-performing long-time staff are allowed to continue. You’ll pay for parking.

Pros

Great colleagues, good retirement matching, opportunities to get degrees.

Cons

Low pay, low yearly increases (approximately 1-3%), pay for parking, if the university falls on hard times, the first thing to be done is taking away retirement and yearly increases. The president never comes down from her house on the hill to support or simply say hello to those who help the university run smoothly. Upward mobility is rare. This place is a revolving door of employees.
