Pros

You somewhat get a good work-life balance as you are not having to put many "after hours" in to your work. The colleagues are great as well. You get a lot of PTO, but they complain when you take it. My advice is to just use your PTO because either way, management will not be happy.

Cons

There are way to many processes that make the sales cycle extremely slow and inefficient. You spend more time on internal tasks and non-revenue generating processes than you do selling. Everything you do is tracked and micro managed, and the KPI's are unrealistic along with all of the other mundane tasks that we have to do. New processes are added in every time one small thing happens so they can slap your hand when something goes wrong as that is their solution to anything. That's what happens with you work for a company run by engineers, not business minded people. There were very few promotions through my time there and no internal growth path for employees. People have to leave the company for a promotion. I saw 2 promotions on my team in 3 years. AspenTech is not customer focused and is a very difficult environment to sell in. It is a good resume builder though, as the industry recognizes how difficult it is to work for AspenTech. It is an old company that is stuck in its old ways.

Pros

Very intelligent colleagues. Travel and opportunities to meet people from other parts of the world. Emphasis on continuing education and skills improvement. One of the best best health insurance coverage, seemingly unaffected by the disastrous Obamacare.

Cons

"No work from home ever" mentality. Astonishing amount of micromanagement. Greed. Not taking into account "the will of the people" Changing things at the last moment and having others deal with the consequences. Some people who process orders do so without any obvious sense of priority. Fear. And it deserves a special paragraph. - fear to take responsibility - fear to speak up - fear to say anything critical of the management - fear to say CEO's name out loud - fear to end up on the next layoff and creating unnecessary drama as a result

Pros

Most of the people at Aspen are really nice to work with. Pay is pretty good. Aspen is regarded as the best in class in many areas of software that they sell into, so there is some prestige in working here if you are in the energy industry and are familiar with Aspen's software.

Cons

The CEO simply does not care about the employees. Not only is there a mandatory 3/2 hybrid work policy (in office Tues/Wed/Thurs every week if you are <50 miles from an office), and now you literally have to check in every week in Workday to say where you are working from every single day. It's total micromanagement insanity. When asked on a recent all-hands call about employee concerns with sustainability due to all the driving the new policy required, he responded with, 'Hey, if you are worried about sustainability, go buy a Tesla.' He said he had 6 pages of questions submitted about the 3/2 policy and then ignored and didn't address any of them and basically said we're doing this no matter what you say. This is what 'listening to employee concerns' looks like at Aspen. I expect a lot of employees to leave and a lot of future delays and failure to meet milestones. I know of a handful of people who have already told me they are looking elsewhere and so am I. Aside from asinine policies that don't fix anything, the benefits are really middle of the road and the bonus system does NOT pay anything close to your 'potential' bonus. The mandatory hybrid model ends up costing employees a lot of extra expenses so keep that in mind before applying.
