Pros

This is an ok place for beginning technologists to get a start. There are positions in the call center, QA, and development with room for advancement. Availity is also a decent forum for technology discussions.

Cons

Availity has had long term culture problems between its home office in Jacksonville, FL and its acquired/merged offices in Dallas and Indianapolis. Many of the top ranking developers and key technology staff have moved on (due to dissatisfaction), or were forced out after the acquisitions. The business models from these offices were also reinvented leading to changes in the product and, in many cases, dissatisfied customers. This has lead to a high job dissatisfaction rate for customer support staff in these offices. Turn over rates are extremely high in these locations. Top heavy and top down leadership style. Yearly bonuses and raises for individual employees are frequently reduced by senior leadership, regardless of numbers the supervisor/manager awards.

Cons

- Leadership at the top is lacking - Lots of backstabbing at the leadership level - Senior Leadership does not present a untied front - Integrity can be an issue with certain individuals within the organization - Company has made long term strategic mistakes the last few years, resulting in not meeting key goals set for both 2015 and 2016. - Choices on personnel is very questionable at times, just not the right fit and it obvious

Pros

Some teams have reasonably decent work life balance.

Cons

I can’t speak for the entirety of the organization, as many employees on other teams seemed to largely enjoy their situations. However, my experience as a developer in the Jacksonville office was overwhelmingly negative. The overall organizational tech stack is a Byzantine nightmare. If you find yourself on a “problem project”, you can certainly expect to have a target on your back, and the leadership team is certainly not above throwing people under the bus to pave over larger technical issues and an absence of system architecture. I would frankly recommend that developers stay far away from Availity unless they’re slated to work on one of the older, established legacy project teams. Availity does not have the management wherewithal required to build innovative greenfield projects.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, even if it wasn't as positive as we'd like. You recognize that other teams function well, but it sounds like you had a difficult experience specifically with the team you were on. One of Availity's core values is the opportunity for all associates to have an open and inclusive dialog. We have quarterly check-ins with managers, but if you don't feel like you're being heard, reach out to your HR business partners for advice and assistance to get your voice heard at the appropriate level of management. We love innovative ideas. Just like any organization out there, most of our scrum teams are successful, and a few here and there will confront challenges for various reasons. It sounds like you were working on one of our more innovative projects. Getting these right can be challenging, and every decision has to be weighed more carefully because they are more impactful. You're also often building outside the box, and the environment is less mature than that of our more established systems. But this is what it takes to push the envelope. Availity has a culture of innovation. We impose upon ourselves to get out of our comfort zone and constantly explore the latest technologies. It's a way to stay ahead of the competition, invest in our associates, and constantly augment their skills with relevant, diverse technologies such as cloud computing, infrastructure as code, or AI/ML. Thank you again for taking the time to share your review. We wish you much success in your future endeavors.
