Much work to do for a growing company...

Pros

1. Fair salaried wages (if your a salaried employee) 2. Cafe and Cafeteria 3. Old company with fresh young talent. 4. Cathy Bissell is a hero. Her work for pets is to be admired. 5. Tuition reimbursement (if you can get it approved) 6, Great HR response time to your needs 7. Good internal communication. 8. Company is growing 9 They truly do make great products (I own several) 10. Employee store discounts

Cons

1. A highly profitable company should be providing better employee health care, their high deductible insurance is terrible and not allowing a spouse to be covered if their employer offers insurance is ridiculous. 2. Profit sharing and 401K match is subpar considering company growth and company profitability. 3. A quick look at the companies organizational chart tells you that BISSELL lacks diversity in the workplace. You will be hard pressed to find any minority workers represented here. 4. The use of temporary employees is overextended and taken advantage of. 5. Temperature and humidity levels in the plant leave peoples health at risk, Unbearable heat conditions during the summer months. 6. Poor production worker wages. 7. Ridiculous (keeping it real) shift premiums 8. Poor family/ work balance 9. Employee appreciation could be much better. 10. Poor break/ lunch time allotment for hourly workers

Good company that gives good employee experience - still work to do

Pros

Summer hours are the best. Wish it was year round. Work 7:30-5 Monday through Thursday and get out at 12:30 Fridays. Casual dress during the summer, jeans on Friday during the other months. Also love that you get to bring your dog to work, not many places get to do that. People are nice.

Cons

Cafeteria food is terrible. Impossible to work from home - it's frowned upon. Strict 8-5 schedule during business hours - it's frowned upon to leave a little early even if you have your stuff done for the day. Brand still has a lot of work to do - nowhere near Shark or Dyson level of recognition. Office space is outdated, even as they are doing construction. Need more natural light and places to sit. Compensation is terrible, especially if you're just starting out. Don't get paid enough for the expectations of the job.

Pros

On-site cafeteria and coffee bar is convenient with good food and reasonable prices. Summer hours are nice. For the most part good people to work with. Products are good and starting to get better with innovation. They are pet friendly and do alot to help homeless pets through funding adoption fees and spay and neuter programs.

Cons

Lack of diversity, gender equality, and transparency, and too much nepotism in a family run business. They will hire and promote family members and friends of CEO and top execs instead rather than base it on merit, experience, skill, and work ethic. They reward the wrong behaviors here. And you will struggle more to get recognized for your work if you are a woman or over 35 yrs. old. They prefer to hire externally - 20-somethings with little to no relevant experience over internal more qualified associates and then try to lamely justify it. Their internal interviewing process is a dog and pony show when they usually already have someone picked for the position and then managers be-little and insult you in an interview and are condescending because they have their own hidden agenda/plan. Pets are sometimes treated better than the people. Managers and HR will lie to you. Managers and co-workers would rather throw you under the bus...everyone is in self-preservation/protect mode. Raises are minuscule and sometimes insulting for the work that you do, especially if you get an above average rating on your yearly review. They limit pay grades jumps even if you are more than qualified with past experience. There is a lack of transparency in pay and job grades allowing them to perpetuate the inequality and favoritism.
