Pros

Can be a good opportunity if you are coming directly out of college and want to get into outside sales.

Cons

Low pay, poor support, and top performers are not rewarded and are quick to leave for better opportunities. Turnover is at 90% among the business solutions Account Managers over the past number of years. Leadership will look for any excuse to not pay your commission. Instead of sales numbers, they are primarily concerned with activity based KPIs which everyone struggles to reach. Bullying and micromanagement is commonplace so morale is extremely low. A select few of salespeople are the only people who can approve your quotes, they will charge a 30% - 50% cut of your sale to do this. Good luck trying to gain this ability yourself, it is confusing and can take years as they want you to be a master of complex aerospace/automotive manufacturing regulations first. On that point, the solutions you sell will be extremely difficult to learn and very technical. Expect to spend many hours doing complex math equations, most people only understand the basics after one year. This job is not a fit for anyone who is not technically-inclined or struggles using technology. You are the top performer if you can make about 60% of quota. If you hit that number you can expect 50-60 base and a commission of 15-20k more. I have heard recruiters tell people you can hit 100k OTE but that is a flat-out lie. BSI is a good organization globally, and certain teams (e.g. medical device) in the americas division are well-run. However the business solutions team has a long way to go and needs significant change. Based on current events things may get worse before they get better.

One of the three pillars of our strategy is to 'Make BSI a great place to work’. An important part of being a great place to work is to ensure that we listen to employees – both current and former – and use the comments provided to assess our organization and make improvements. Your feedback enables this to happen. We know your pay and benefits are important factors in your career decision. That's why we put much care and thought into building our total compensation packages and structure our pay for performance model based on market, competence, and experience. These plans are continually reviewed based on market changes and BSI approach, which includes recognized and rewards for notable contributions to the position, our customers, and/or the company. We are developing strategies to ensure that we focus our resources and efforts effectively across geographies in a competence based environment; and we continue to invest in our team members’ continuing professional development to expand their skills and ability to sell. Our industry, as accredited certification bodies, is held to high standards and technical knowledge. It needs to be understood that the consequence of an incorrect sale is very significant to our clients and risky to BSI’s reputation and license to operate. Still, we are piloting different ways to accelerate the sales team training and fast-track the competence evaluation to support sales independence and avoid interdependencies. For those that want to rise to the challenge of a growing and ever evolving industry leader, BSI is the best choice around.

Pros

Great place to work! Lots of opportunities to expand your reach and responsibilities. Fantastic benefits including 20 paid-time-off per year PLUS the week between Christmas and New Year. Enjoyable environment, colleagues are positive and you are able to make real contributions to the business and see your achievements.

Cons

Working from home is discouraged for office based personnel - even during massive snowstorms. Salaries are on the low side in comparison to those in similar industries and the commission structure needs to improve.

Thank you for sharing about your experience working for BSI! We have a lot of talented people working for BSI who contribute heavily to our vibrant company culture and success of the business. Many of our client-facing positions are home based, however for the departments that are office based, we believe that collaboration and teamwork is most conducive when team members are collocated. Home based employees also meet at least once a year to maintain a sense of belonging. We are glad you are pleased with the work environment, opportunities to grow, and the benefits. BSI offers a competitive total compensation package including salary, health insurance, paid time off, and other incentives when applicable. We do appreciate your honest feedback and thank you for your contributions to BSI!

Pros

Benefits, 401K and the colleagues I left behind.

Cons

1. Admin position - management has no reverence for individuals in these roles. 2. There must be Laws for the amount of work a company can assign based on the compensation (Admin positions). 3. There is lots of work, problematic work, schemes that require attention to detail and a lot of interruptions. Based on the work the salary should start at LEAST in $60,000's . 4. Multitasking is not efficient, logical, or possible. Productivity doesn’t mean multitasking. 5. Management is too busy to notice anything positive. They notice only the negative.
