Pros

-Benefits are decent -Great marketing material to help educate clients -3 Wellness Plans -PTO is generous -Vendor partnerships -Decent diagnostic equipment

Cons

-Reducing labor from the bottom (i.e. The hospital level) across the practice is ruining the future of being able to deliver quality medicine. -Upper mgt changes over the last year are all about $$$ -Lots of protocol & company changes within a massive organization was good until budgets cut out team meetings and team development -Treat you like a robot, simple: produce & deliver. Feel nothing -No work-life balance -No follow through or allowance for full training plans, new associates are often pushed out into their role with little to no training

Banfield Pet Hospital Response

Thank you for taking a moment to share your review. We have medical protocols in place to ensure our veterinarians are able to practice high quality medicine to all of our patients. Our focus is to have the appropriate number of associates in each hospital so our doctors have supportive teams to assist. We are continuously working to improve our associate experience and your feedback is extremely valuable for those efforts. Thank you for all that you do for our practice. --- Banfield Pet Hospital

Pros

Great idea unfortunately poorly executed by business people who have no idea that veterinary medicine will never be anything like human medicine.

Cons

Management - ultimately they are about money not the human/animal bond. They expect new hospitals to grow at 30% per year and established hospitals to grow endlessly at 10% a year. There is no consideration for a downturn in the economy. You better make your numbers or there will be hell to pay.

Pros

Good benefits such as a 401K with ~3% matching, OK insurance (very high deductible). Good that you have the ability to apply to transfer to a different location within the US if you need to move 3 free Wellness Plans for your own personal (cannot be used for other family members) pets

Cons

Money-hungry, profit motivated leadership. You will be constantly hounded about earning more & more money for the company. They DEFINITELY put profit ahead of medicine & ethics. As a DVM all your job reviews will focus on money, for example how high your APC (Average patient charge is - it is supposed to be over $100 per pet), the percentage of pets you are selling heartworm & flea prevention to, the number of pets you signed up on wellness plans, the numer of pets you recommended Royal Canin (owner by Mars, the same company that owns Banfield) to. It is never ending & frustrating. You are not a vet you become a salesperson! They overbook ALL the time to try & get as many pets seen everyday as possible to maximize profit. This means you get very little time to deal with each case, even the sick ones, & the risk of making a mistake or missing something is increased. Also don't expect to get a lunch break or to leave on time because you are so overbooked that ~85% of the time you will work the whole day without a break & can leave 1-2 hours after you are scheduled. Also you don't get paid anything extra for all this 'overtime' Banfield is only closed on Christmas & Thanksgiving. They are open the other 363 days of the year, so expect to be working most holidays & weekends. It can be very difficult to take your PTO because they always seem understaffed & there is no one able/willing to cover your shifts. Your PTO requests will not be approved until YOU find another DVM to cover all of the shifts you would normally be working for the time you want off. They promise new grads mentorship but in reality they don't have many experienced DVM"s to train the new grads & it is all about getting them to follow the Banfield protocols to earn as much possible as quickly as possible.
