Good experience, but some room for improvement
Pros
>Very generous PTO and holidays, I love having a free weeklong vacation each Christmas >Administration is very open to remote work >I’ve found a department with a very healthy and fun culture; I’ve never worked with nicer people >I feel supported by my direct supervisors >Nice perks like free campus parking, free entry to some sport events, can use the gym, robust wellness program >Employee appreciation events are fairly frequent >Tuition remission is great if you have children planning to attend the university >Many jobs do not require masters degree
Cons
>Merit increases are outpaced by inflation >Tuition remission is not very easy for an employee to use for a masters degree, since online programs are not covered and not many graduate degrees are not part time or do not accommodate daytime work schedules >Inconsistency in department cultures, some are great and some are not >HR is slow >Sometimes struggle with work-life balance due to high workload
