Pros

Working with people who are passionate about improving the lives of children on the autism spectrum.

Cons

The pay is possibly the lowest in the state for an RBT. They will train and certify you, but you will only start out at $12 an hour. When you get your certification you get a $1/hour raise. Also, not all centers are the same. Your experience really depends on your managers and the culture of your center.

Pros

Overall, Behavioral Innovations is okay. There are definitely far worse companies to choose to work for. They provide benefits to full-time employees and PTO to salaried employees. An employee's overall happiness will depend on the center you work at. This can be a pro as you can transfer to another center and have a completely different experience.

Cons

Where to begin. Pay. Pay is low, and when I say low, I mean the pay is considerably lower than other ABA companies whether they are hourly or contract. No matter what center you are at (middle of no where or Dallas/Austin) you have the same pay scale. This is to the great detriment of people living in cities with higher costs of living. The company's non-compete is so strict that is ensures you cannot work for another company in the same line of work without completely moving. The company's model for various positions is outdated which makes for confusing organization of responsibilities. For example, a person with a high school diploma could be supervising therapists who are in school for their Masters degree. There is no opportunities for growth as they claim in a standard job ad. Growth would simply mean more responsibilities on top of your existing responsibilities and further surpassing the standard 40 hour week. Each center only has two salaried positions. If you are in the top salaried position, there is no growth. If you are a therapist, you are vying for the opportunity to be promoted to another hourly position that pays barely more than being a regular therapist/RBT, but then have the same responsibilities with more responsibilities that must be accomplished within 40 hours. After that, you are vying for two salaried positions that are probably taken. Or waiting for another center to open. The company's growth model essentially is set up to let you grow out of the company and go get paid more somewhere else. Pay is not everything when it comes to working for a company, but if you can't pay your bills despite loving your clients and co-workers, something has to give.

Pros

- The kids were very rewarding to work with, especially when you could make a breakthrough - Coworkers were friendly - Flexible hours -You can wear comfortable clothing at work

Cons

- Extremely low pay considering the quality of work needed/amount of paperwork required. - Pay was not very reliable; if a client was sick/out on vacation/at a medical appointment and you aren't needed to be there, you just don't get paid that day - Some of the management was hard to work with; very critical of therapists and not very friendly - Very poor benefits; when the kids have are on break, you just don't get paid for that time unless you use your few paid days off - You are essentially required to get your RBT certification in order to work with enough kids to get full time hours, and they make you pay a portion of the cost to get the certification -You are hired as a therapist but you do the job of the janitor and administrator as well
