Bullying

Pros

I loved working here when it was Parisian. However, over the past years, they have gotten rid of top designers & the quality of merchandise has declined. Business has been very slow but they blame the associates rather than look at what the company could be doing better.

Cons

This company tolerates bullying. The managers show favoritism. They allow certain associates to mistreat each other. They fire new people for being late but there are associates who have worked there for years who have NEVER been on time!

Horrible company to work for

Pros

Salary was good and the associates were all really good people

Cons

No room for growth whatsoever since they don't post open positions or if they do they already have someone in mind and its meaningless. Favortism and fraternization is rampant, like nothing I have ever seen. Senior managers going out with managers who report to them, managers going out with associates who report to them. Senior management is unqualified and just plain stupid, unable to do their job. All senior managers just sit in their office al day every day like they are the president and contribute nothing to the business. In what universe does senior management sit in their office all day the week of Christmas? Only at Belk. Associates, who work really really hard due to lack of staffing, are treated like a herd of moo cows who have no minds of their own. So many great people fired over random BS that honestly should have been taken care of my their managers long before it became a problem. All the way up to the regional and corporate HR managers are deceitful, manipulative liars. Horrible place to work.

Pros

long standing employees that remain have excellent work ethic, great supportive co-workers, customers value their knowledge, 401k match.

Cons

draining job on your feet, always pulled in 10 different directions, trying to reach astronomical sales goals for events while completing additional tasks, client books are impossible to use in high traffic departments (don't have time), events require filling out paperwork that requires so much info that in this digital age is absolutely ridiculous, and customers don't understand why things take so long and are getting more impatient and mean, store design makes it impossible for customers to find associates, registers need to be centrally located in each department, management needs to decide if they want sales consultants or clerks, you don't have time to be both. customers expect associates to be at register, and management expects personal service, do you want to be target/wal-mart or a personal service high end department store? Get rid of the old ways of retail, stop competing with other retailers and be your own brand, stop confusing customers with coupons that don't work, and setting associates up for angry complaints and attitudes when ready to buy. GET RID OF THE OLD PAPERWORK AND UPDATE YOUR TECHNOLOGY/ HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I WISHED I COULD JUST USE MY OWN ANDROID TO PUT MY CLIENTS IN OR DO MY OWN PRESALES!!!! belk asks for too much while giving associates few tools to make it happen. markdowns and detail work seem to fall when we are the busiest, needs streamlining so it doesn't interfere with busy events/days.Sometimes my mouth feels like it's full of marbles with the amount of explaining i have to do to get customers to understand how a sale works or why a coupon doesn't apply, also when i have to ask 4 questions just to finish a transaction. email?/phone?/donate?/belk card?/
