A company run by idiots!

Pros

I wish I could say more, but the only thing I can come up with is the employee discount. That comes in handy at the holidays when they throw the extra discounts.

Cons

It is run by the Belk family itself, that seems to be an issue with their huge ego and being the largest private retailer. The heads at top have no frickin' clue what they are doing! They want you to focus on the customers to service them, but at the same time they keep eliminating jobs creating more work for the sales associates. Belk sales associates are required to service customers needs and ring up sales, set all the sale events, process all the price changes, keep their departments clean and folded, and on top of all that they shove credit and a stupid customer satisfaction survey down our throats. I am not a sales associate luckily, but I still have to help with all that on top of my job duties of office manager and marking and receiving. I' ve been working there for 6 years, and have never gotten a decent raise without complaining to my store manager. Don't believe anybody else says about how the company really cares for the employees, they could care less!!! If they cared would they be trying to eliminate jobs and try to get every full-time position knocked down to a part-time so they don't have to pay benfits? Never work there!!!

Pros

This company is fully remote.

Cons

For a company that preaches efficiency, they find every way to do everything but that. You’ll be asked for your feedback and opinions when all they truly want is your agreement. This company does not value discussions or varying outlooks. Constant changes to processes will be made with complete disregard to your workload or wellbeing. I have never worked for a more chaotic, unstable and all around toxic company. Unless you are willing to be 100% amenable, suck up to those above you and find your abilities as a quality worker to be of little priority—do not waste your time as I have.

Pros

Paid well. That is the only pro I can think of.

Cons

Doesn’t care about their people at all. Poorly run company starting at the top and trickling all the way down. Stores are understaffed. Stores are in need of updates. Fixtures are broken, some held together by tape. No money is put into their stores, which makes for unhappy employees and unhappy customers.
