Pros

- Great benefits. BetterUp has world class health, vision, and dental insurance. - Great parental leave benefits. - Access to coaching for employees and a plus one. - An impactful product with a great company mission. - You might get to hear from Prince Harry or Adam Grant because they're part of the company

Cons

- Bad sales leadership. They are constantly changing strategies and targets. - Very little enablement and support. - 50%+ of AEs are not hitting quota and are on PIPs - There is no career path or growth for SDRs. Many of whom have been in seat for 18 months with no career progression and no plans in place to change that - Information is very siloed and an "Elite" few make the decisions without any input from front and middle managers - Little/no inbound leads - Recent performance reviews told us that exceeding expectations is actually hitting 125%+ of goal. (I hit 116% for the last quarter and am only "Meets Expectations") - AEs are expected to produce 40% of their own pipeline, leading to misalignment between SDRs and AEs

Pros

The mission is something that sounds so fulfilling. The people are helpful, brilliant and collaborative. The product is as solid as it could be for an ever evolving startup.

Cons

Onboarding does little to nothing in terms of preparing you for this role. It emphasizes the science of the solution, which is a tiny portion of winning a sale. The metrics and quota are daunting, and the metrics shift depending upon quarter and make or miss. Often without a word from leadership. Very complex sale and due to pending IPO, pressure to close deals before it makes sense is beginning to loom large. Pretty sure there is tracking software and leadership 'spying' on activities and computer time logged. Unfortunately, the loudly stated values are meaningless in the face of cold, hard capitalism. Not walking the walk by any means. Too bad.

Pros

The mission was solid, and the behavioral science team was amazing. The company attracted some great people because of its mission.

Cons

the entire sales organization was a hot disaster. zero leadership and the few sales managers they had were a joke. no experience middle-aged, sis-gender white men who harassed both men and women which I experience first hand almost daily. they required even their most senior AE's to make a certain number of phone calls and emails each day and record their video calls so they could be told everything they do wrong. It was a toxic, uninspired, and painful experience overall. HR was non-existent. They laid off over 60 people in April of 2020 "due to covid" but countless people were pregnant women and many others were amazing longstanding good employees. The CEO was an egomaniac and could make anyone's skin crawl.
