Terrible management all around

Pros

The pay was good for the industry.

Cons

Management is terrible. I've never seen anything like this. Everyone on my team was depressed and looking for other jobs. The managers would make us cry with mean and rude comments. I would get anxious before every one-on-one. Additionally the C-suite is impersonal and not transparent. Even within my team there were all these secret meetings I wasn't a part of. Most stressful time in my life was working at Birst.

A lot to be Desired

Pros

-Solid product that connects many disparate databases -Rated well by Gartner -Chance to go public or be acquired -Reasonable salary and stock option package -Some bright people -Founders are smart -Good location in nice building

Cons

-Execs lack foresight and are not good with people. Very humanless and robotic -Some really bad execs being reactionary vs. visionary -Not really sure what they are - start up? big boy company? -No one gets a real promotion here. Maybe a title increase, but it's for show or to appease them for the time being (including VP's). -Good or smart people figure it out then leave -Not sure how long the CEO will stick it out

Pros

Birst's cloud BI solution is truly leading edge. It's a great all inclusive BI solution and very well suited for the SMB segment. Pushing into the enterprise for Birst will be challenging as large companies already own many of the traditional components of a typical BI infrastructure. Birst is a fantastic BI platform for the right applications - but not all applications.

Cons

Birst is heavily VC backed and has been for quite some time. Very questionable Sr Exec appointments over the past 12 months have taken a negative effect on talent retention. The team now in place all worked for a IPO effort prior and have tried (but failed) to apply the same fundemental approach to Birst. BI is a crowed space and Birst is not cracking open a new solution segment.
