Directly from the hiring manager from a response in a previous review: "Regardless of your dog care role – Vet, Groomer, Dog Trainer, Dog Handler, etc. – you will be bitten by a dog at some point.. . - Allison"
I want to begin by saying people working here want to because they genuinely love dogs, however not everyone has been trained to work with them. As a company that hires young professionals where this is a first job for most of the employees there is not a training program in place in recognizing body language nor behavior which indicates they have a potential to be in a dangerous situation for themselves or other dogs. There is also not a training program in place to learn how to deescalate a dangerous situation nor finding solutions to prevent these work place injuries. The only information they provide is in the employee handbook which is online (which most junior staff do not access) and employees have to learn as they work. As a company that recognizes their employees will be bitten no matter what- this is a very serious safety issue that there isn't a training program in place for staff working directly with the dogs to prevent these injuries.
I have worked in the animal industry for 6 years and unfortunately was bitten while working at Biscuits and Bath. As someone who was bitten and could not work as a direct result of a work related injury while on the job, worker's compensation was never received for a week of work missed. Available PTO was not used to be compensated as it was communicated through HR that worker's compensation would cover the week of work missed. The urgent care that was used for the injury had an issue with the billing to the Biscuits and Bath insurance for the work related injury and this went on for five months. After several attempts to communicate with HR in regards to the worker's compensation it was never received.
If you are choosing to work at Biscuits and Bath, understand there is a risk of getting bitten. There is a potential to not be able to work for a period of time as a result of being injured while working at Biscuits and Bath with possible stitches, physical therapy, and scarring without receiving any worker's compensation for time missed at work.
