      All the challenging work you can handle. Good Benefits

      Cons

      Different departments not even close to being integrated. VERY HIGH turnover rate makes it hard to build to better performance. HR dept. doesn't seem to get the best candidates. Expediency frequently trumps doing the right thing. About the only thing not out-sourced is the water in the toilets.

      Pros

      Great company culture, mission, and values. Respect and integrity in the workplace are of the utmost importance in both employee performance, and management performance. Excellent not-for-profit atmosphere,...yes the bottom line counts, but not to fatten any shareholder wallets as in most for profit companies. Blue Shield pumps millions of dollars back into the state of CA through its foundation in grant making to community health care programs, research, etc. Blue Shield works very hard at hiring and retaining top talent for all of its' employees from the executive level on down. Truly a company that strives to do the right thing, and that places greater value on its people than market share at any cost. A great place to work!

      Cons

      As with any large company, some processes and upgrades are slow to move. Sometimes (ok, often) overly cautious on the legal and compliance fronts to the detriment of being able to provide quick to market sales materials, and at times, strategic decisions.
