Got to Be Kidding, more layoffs!

Pros

High pay in the Salt Lake City Market for a stressful and demanding job. Company has been around for about 120 years. Global footprint. Great employees to work with in HQ and the Regions.

Cons

Layoffs! Long hours. Layoffs! Passive aggressive management team. Layoffs! Work evenings and weekends due to letting go of so many people. Layoffs! No work life balance. Layoffs! No employee loyalty; people are disposable resources. Layoffs! Did I mention layoffs -- this company has been in layoff mode since 2007 and for some reason keeps poor performers, too much management, and gets rid of good solid workers. Layoffs can happen at any time and have been a regular occurrence – problem is the severance packages are not too good and there is no notice. The back office is way too small to support 60+ countries and a distinct products business and services business. It takes people and money to run an effective global business. Problem is you cut money and people but still have to support a large complex global company – that translates into long hours and weekends for many employees. Processes are short cutted or just not followed. If you are looking to grow skills or get training, this is not the place as there is no time for training or self development.

Pros

Great pay, great projects, good people and managers

Cons

The mining industry is a volatile market. In a downturn you could end up laid off like I did. Management may spend thousands and head in one direction and then change its mind and go in a completely different direction wasting time and money.
