Complete dumpster fire

Pros

Unlimited PTO and remote work.

Cons

Bonterra is a complete dumpster fire. They have had multiple mass layoffs in the past 18 months and do not have much of a staff left and I imagine the staff that is still left is not very comfortable wondering when they will be next. Leadership is completely out of touch. They think they will be one of the best nonprofit software companies in the country, yet they don't have anyone left to work for the clients. My experience was negative from the first day. Constant threats of PIPs, emotional and unqualified managers and just an overall bad working environment. Think twice before you apply to any Bonterra job.

Pros

My team was amazing before we were acquired by Bonterra. Unlimited PTO is nice when I’m not stressed out of my mind to take it.

Cons

They lay us off like we mean nothing all while calling us “friends” during all hands meeting and saying to assume positive intent during company-wide meetings where they lay us off. Horribly mismanaged. ELT is downright evil in how they handle anything, especially for people working with the nonprofit sector. Active union-busting. Horrible compensation. Please find another place to work where they actually treat you just even a little bit like a human being.

A Once Thriving Workplace Diminished Post-Merger

Pros

Unlimited PTO, remote work culture

Cons

Before the merger, working at NFG (now Bonterra) was an exceptional experience. The work environment was among the best, characterized by its dynamism and a strong sense of camaraderie among colleagues. It was a place where talent thrived, and I had the privilege of collaborating with some of the most skilled and dedicated professionals in the industry. However, the post-merger phase brought significant changes that have impacted the company culture and its people deeply. One of the most challenging aspects has been the multiple rounds of layoffs, which have resulted in the loss of many talented colleagues. Watching these individuals leave has been difficult, not just on a personal level but also for the collective morale and the company’s reservoir of expertise. Additionally, it has become increasingly apparent that the compensation packages offered are below market standards. This discrepancy has not only affected employee satisfaction but could potentially hinder the company's ability to attract and retain top talent in the future.
