Pros

There are some really incredible, dedicated people. PTO is also generous.

Cons

- Confusing and often tone deaf communications from exec level that frequently lack transparency - Severe lack of accountability particularly for exec/c suite level - Constant and rapid turnover - Despite the fact the company is “one” company, every business unit pays vastly different amounts with differing comp structures and offers different benefits - for companies acquired by EA (GiveGab, Salsa) this is a particular strain since these companies were never fully integrated or brought to equitable pay with peer EA employees. I left for a position that is pays 3x the amount I was making with significantly reduced workload and way better benefits. - Everything is made substantially harder because of lack of integration in email and tools across the business units (for example, 92 different sales tools and instances of those tools are being used across the revenue organization). - HR is relatively non-existent and when they do respond they’re frequently rude and unhelpful - if you have an issue, you literally have to submit a Google form and wait 2-3 business days before someone gets back to you. Often I had to submit several times to get an answer - colleagues shared similar experiences. - Morale is low and burnout is severe particularly in the revenue organization. - No effort made in improving remote culture or having folks meet /get to know their colleagues in intentional ways. Instead, they’re prioritizing reopening and bringing people back to offices (again, prioritizing this over blending HR systems and creating equitable paybands & benefits across the company), with very little mention of how this will look for folks who are not near any of the cities that have offices. - Internal candidates are treated poorly and I’m aware of folks who have applied to a new internal position, gotten 2-3 interviews in, and then were completely ghosted by the hiring manager. Insane.

Thank you for your feedback and sharing your perspective. We are committed to creating a company that rewards performance, fosters strong morale and delivers opportunities for employee growth even during this transition as we become Bonterra. Mergers and everything that comes along with them, like integrating systems, can be challenging but also provide a lot of opportunity for growth and change. We take feedback seriously and we’re open to all areas improvement as we become Bonterra. It’s a priority to provide competitive and equitable pay and benefits while we do work that matters for the doors of good. We recently completed a competitive pay analysis and are completing compensations reviews. We are committed to building the most-inspired culture built on values that were created by employees, for employees and understand that connection and a sense of belonging, even in a hybrid or remote culture is an important part of that. We truly value employee insights like yours since they help us create a brighter future for all employees. Thanks for being a valued Bonterran and best of luck on future endeavors!

Pros

There are some genuinely lovely people who work there.

Cons

ICYMI - Bonterra History: Bonterra was formed in mid-late 2021 by merging together EveryAction/NGPVan, Social Solutions, and Cybergrants. They later purchased Network for Good. Prior to the merger, EveryAction/NGPVan had been on a buying spree and had acquired (among others) Salsa Labs and GiveGab. EveryAction for its part had not even completed the transition/integration of its acquired employees before the merger. Additionally, RIGHT before the merger, EveryAction voted in a union but when I left months and months later (and to my knowledge, to date), the union has not successfully negotiated a contract. So really what we are talking about here is a bunch of companies that were less than a couple hundred people very quickly forced together to a now ~1000 person conglomerate. The whole process was completely mismanaged and the result was chaos and just toxicity. Executive decision making was never transparent. Internal and client-facing communications from leadership was always A) delayed B) reactive and never proactive C) never successfully rolled out company-wide and therefore many teams were always on different pages/different levels of understanding. Even while team members constantly broached areas of concern in terms of client *and* employee experience, executives presented a very rosy-colored view of how the company was doing and never once acknowledge that there were issues to be addressed. Definition of toxic positivity. Add into that just the general toxicity between teammates due to the very, very loud political vibe/culture at the company. Call me old fashion--even though I am wayyyyy closer to college graduation than I am to retirement--but I was raised to not bring politics into work. And even though, I generally agreed with most of the political values being espoused internally, I became increasingly uncomfortable watching teammates/friends be ostracized because they did not believe the same. Last thing to note, this company is TERRIBLE at managing benefits and payroll. They are constantly making mistakes.

Thank you for your feedback on your experience. Mergers — and managing all the moving parts of the associated integration and change — can be tough. We’re doing our best to listen to feedback like this as we continue integrating and building Bonterra.
