Pros

My supervising BCBA couldn't be more supportive. She is easy to reach and always ready to listen and provide advice. Both my direct supervisor and regional supervisor have let me know that they feel I am a vital part to our team and this (in my opinion) is SUPER important.

Cons

I have been with the company for a while and have consistently expressed my desire to be full time. In our region, it seems we just don't have enough clients for RBTs to get full time hours. This has made it necessary for me to have 2 jobs to support myself because I do not want to leave BE.

Thank you for your feedback. We currently operate in 30 markets and depending upon payer mix, you are correct, full-time hours can be difficult to attain. Please make sure that HR is aware of your desire to increase hours. Sometimes we are in the midst of making strategic decisions related to markets and it is helpful to have all of the information at our disposal to make the best decisions. We have many clients looking for great Techs and access is a primary focus. Interested to understand what market you reside in today.

Good job, long training process

Pros

Great clients and really make a difference in the children's lives as well as the families. Seeing just the smallest amount of progress in a client feels amazing and leaves you feeling so proud. The training is thorough and will leave someone with doubts feeling confident to run therapy by the end.

Cons

The training process is LONG. It takes months. It is not exactly their fault, there are many factors at play and there is a struggle to get enough clients that trainees can train with. Since the Registered Behavior Technician credential became mandatory to work with Tricare patients, new hires basically can't get a case unless a client is not on tricare, and 99% of them are.

Thank you for your review. In 2015, we spent a great deal of resources working through the Technician training piece which is critical to the successful outcomes of our clients and families. Today we are focused on throughput and improving the time from application to billable services with families. We appreciate how valuable your time is and we are working diligently to decrease the time from hire to start of care, without compromising quality. You will hear our plan if you tune into a Town Hall meeting this week!

Pros

Like the title says, BE is a great company if you have little experience working with children on the spectrum. Your training is paid for and you receive hands on experience. The skills you learn in this job would be applicable to basically every career, and can help you improve in communication, handling stress, adversity, working with little to no supervision, relating to others, and so on. I would highly recommend this company for students interested in becoming BCBA's, Occupational Therapists, child psychologists, speech therapists, special education teachers, etc. The flexibility in the hours you work is great, and you can work up to 40 hours per week if you have enough clients. The payment structure, however, is set up so that you are only paid for the hours you worked, as these are the only hours you can bill for. This may seem quite obvious and is 100% fair; however, the issue here is that you may have only one family you work with for 30 hours a week. If the child gets sick, goes on vacation, or the family needs to cancel, you lose that 30 hours for the week. If you don't need a reliable source of income, then this isn't an issue. This isn't the company's fault, but I think it's important to put this out there. Again, this type of flexibility would be perfect for a college student. Oh...and the children and families you work with? They're amazing, and you'd be hard pressed to find another job where you can so visibly see the positive impact you have made in the lives of others. It's truly an incredible feeling. Seriously.

Cons

1. You do receive great training, but no training can be so comprehensive that it will cover the full gamut of what to do in every situation. You may be placed to work with an aggressive child, and never received hands-on-training on what to do should such and such situation arise. Supervisors are instrumental in providing guidance and feedback, and this is where your experience will either be positive or negative: a good supervisor will make sure to tell you about negative behaviors, especially aggression, and SHOW you what to do, making sure you feel completely comfortable. A good supervisor will remain in touch with you, and respond appropriately and in a timely manner to your questions and concerns. I could go on and on, but I can't stress enough the negative effect that bad supervision has on ABA Therapy, families, and therapists. 2. The lack of organization and communication is unbelievable. At times, it feels like a free-for-all. 3. Lack of support 4. Not honoring wishes of families and therapists. Very little attempt is made to make a "good fit."Make sure to be upfront about situations/environments you can't or won't work in (i.e. if you're allergic to cats make sure to mention it)! 5. There is no recognition for low-level employees. There is no room for career growth or advancement. You can become a BCBA, and that's about it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback. I do wish that access to candidates and experienced team members were of no issue in this industry and that waiting for the perfect fit for a client or family was reasonable. Today, families across the country wait patiently for a diagnosis, then for insurance verification, then for an opening in their area, and then for the availability of a Technician. Most of the time, they are a good fit because we vet our candidates thoroughly. But it is not a perfect system or world. And just as I can say from years of experience, sometimes you find an excellent teacher or clinician that makes all the difference in the world and sometimes you have to train the available team member so that the investment pays off for the client. Either way, the team member and client/family experience are equally important in our Company and I communicate that during every Town Hall meeting and every in person opportunity and electronic communication I have available to me. We are working diligently to provide the best balance of highly skilled team members across the country with the demand of only 17,000 BCBAs and a national need for 75,000. In remote settings where care is delivered in the best environment for the client, communication is a challenge. That is why we have invested in electronic records, an HRIS, email platforms, an Applicant Tracking System, and video conferencing. Our goal is to narrow that gap of communication that is truly a two-way street. I am always open to additional feedback and welcome the opportunity to speak directly. Thank you for your continued service and patience.
