Pros
You can get a position without previous experience, and the ability to take off small amounts of time (1-2 hours) for private reasons it good. If you are a woman, especially given the totally bogus lawsuit against CHR, you are more likely to be hired / promoted than a man, and I guess if you are a woman, that's a plus.
Cons
Promotions, in my department, come mainly based upon personal preference rather than excellence. Female management often plays a "friendship game", rewarding those (both men and women) who play "pattycake" with them, ignoring proven performers of both sexes and their desire to advance.
