Everyone in the San Luis Obispo County area wants to work at Cal Poly. I finally landed a job there and it was the most nauseating experience of my entire career (which spans 25 years). My manager couldn't fault my work. She decided she didn't like me and would fault my personality. She would get me behind a closed door (with the useless supervisor sitting there nodding at everything she said) and speak to me in a highly personal, unprofessional, disrespectful way designed to shock and hurt. Apparently at Cal Poly the manager can run her department however she wants with no oversight. My manager created a high stress, miserable environment for me that made it impossible for me to do my work effectively. In front of others, she would smile at me and ask me about my day and be charming, spouting corporate speak such as, "If someone is failing in a department, it is the fault of the supervisors, not the person." Then she'd close the door on me and basically tell me that if I wanted to stay in "her" department, I had to kiss her rear and those of my coworkers. This woman said she would help me find a new job, and instead she blocked one that I know I was about to be offered. She may have blocked many. She took it in her stride to ruin my resume because she had decided she didn't like me. Thank you, Cal Poly, for the worst, most miserable experience of my career and for allowing a woman like this to lead a department and to act like this toward another human being. Let others be warned.
