It was tough to compete with Travelers, Zurich, and Chubb rates.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Recent management changes should help bring more efficient decision making to the field in the future. Good work life balance and employees are generally nice and willing to help you succeed for the most part.

Cons

No real development program for your underwriting career, work is not intellectually challenging and based mainly on predictive modeling for package underwriting positions, 'checking off the boxes' management wants to see completed are as important if not more important than the actual underwriting work itself, and basically CNA in the insurance marketplace has always been poised as a company that will be great in the future with changes x,y, and z that are currently taking place, and that idea going on for the past few decades with little to no tangible results - company is still lacking respect in the industry especially with the 170+ people recently laid off in the recent 'Project Simplicity' layoff. If you're a millennial, frankly I would not recommend this company. If you're motivated to work hard and want to attain any sort of self actualualization in your career, I would not look here for skills development and career nuturing.

Pros

Co-workers and not much else

Cons

New management has come in and let go seasoned employees. They have added extra layers of management and if you are not "young" and from Zurich you are not valued. Off shoring as many jobs as possible. There use to be a CNA family, which is now gone. Everyone is just waiting for the next round of reduction in force and hoping it's not them.
