Great to work in the IT department, but advancement is limited

Pros

Great sense of being a team in the IT department. Great communication. Great collaboration using virtual call-center, IM, email and team conference calls handled regularly, weekly. Managers stick by their employees, have good follow up, and great communication about projects, company direction, and individual assessments.

Cons

Behind the trends of current technology and best practices, due to technology investments are approved at the district level, excluding enterprise apps. Being a geographical virtual department limits advancement opportunities.

Pros

Fair compensation and benefits package. Job retention is fairly easy for employees that work hard and are consistent. It is a Berkshire Hathaway company, which gives it some stability.

Cons

Very few women, minorities and under 50 in middle to upper management. Only sales performers are given career growth and larger than average merit increases. Company is constantly changes courses as to what services it should be offering. Management culture is to let each business unit run itself regardless of if that interferes with the company's mission. Poor communication between management and employees.
