Pros

They hire very strong recruiters, and then just burn them out until they leave.

Cons

- High Turnover and Low Morale: The company experiences exceptionally high turnover, with numerous recruiters, executives, and other staff leaving within a short period. The remaining employees are often stressed and actively seeking new opportunities due to unrealistic expectations and an unhealthy work environment. - Toxic and Demeaning Leadership: The company's leadership fosters a culture of fear and public humiliation. Underperforming employees are singled out and threatened with termination, creating a demoralizing atmosphere. - Discriminatory Hiring Practices: The hiring process is rife with biases, including inappropriate comments regarding physical appearance and a prejudice against individuals impacted by layoffs. This discriminatory behavior limits the company's ability to attract and retain diverse talent. - Unsustainable Workload and Expectations: The company sets unreasonably high performance standards for recruiters, requiring excessive hours and weekend work. This focus on unrealistic goals leads to burnout and contributes to the high turnover rate. - Lack of Work-Life Balance: The demanding work environment prevents employees from maintaining a healthy work-life balance. This is not the norm in the recruiting industry, even at fast-paced startups. - Misplaced Leadership: The company's leadership structure is misaligned. Key figures, including the co-founder and early employees, lack the necessary experience and people skills to effectively lead recruiting efforts. This is a major contributing factor to the high turnover, low morale, and toxic work environment within the recruiting team. The company would benefit from placing individuals with proven recruiting expertise and leadership skills in charge of this critical function.

Pros

The few team members that are left are fantastic!

Cons

I'd love to say that Charlie Health is solving the mental health crisis. Unfortunately, that seems to only be the case when the outcome = profits. I was at Charlie Health for over a year and, while it was never the most compassionate and empathetic work place in the world, it was leagues better than what it's become. This company has led to the mental and emotional downfall of far too many amazing people, including top contributors. Leadership is apathetic to the wellbeing of their team and instead chooses to focus on numbers, profit, and selling a few more copies of their positivity book. Leaders of this team are out of touch and ill equipped to support the CL's in reaching the unattainable KPI's that they set. They make up for the poor numbers with extreme micromanagement, constant pressure, a doubling of expected call volume, and ever-changing, impulsive requirements for how you spend your day. If your activities are low for the day, expect a slack dm wondering how you've been spending your time (despite the public calendar you're also made to keep up to date). Feedback is not well received and not often taken into account. We haven't even had consistent KPI's for over a few months in a row, making the team ineligible for promotion, raises, etc. As a note for prospective employees, do yourself a favor and negotiate if you receive an offer. The pay practices here (and especially in this role as it's less respected than actual outreach managers) are predatory. When I spoke to my manager and my manager's manager about the impact of these things, it was often met with deflection, dismissal, invalidation, etc. The conversation that solidified my choice to leave Charlie Health ended with the sentiment that everyone in the company was feeling as terrible as I was and it won't change so I may as well get over it. Unfortunately, I'm not the only employee with this experience. There's a senior member of the org that's been reported to HR at least 3 times that I know about for bullying and creating unsafe work environments... and is still managing people and thriving in the company. I was also in a meeting where the VP of Outreach said anyone even mentioning the words burnout, and/or work-life-balance in an interview would be automatic red flag/no-hires. At a mental health company. Charlie Health is a fantastic idea ruined by "leaders" that don't have the emotional capacity to support their team.
