Pros

The mission, knowing that you are supporting the amazing care provided to children. No matter how bad things are at work it is hard to leave a place that does such wonderful work with children.

Cons

It is no longer about the kids, families, caregivers and staff who support them. Most senior level leaders that made CHW the number 3 children's hospital in the country are gone, leaving a gap in the commitment to the mission that made CHW such an amazing place. There have been additional levels of management added and positions of front line staff eliminated, which has impacted moral and ability to deliver the same level of excellence. Focus has moved from Kids, and Families and if feels more like big business. Staff in IT were told they could easily be replaced and treated with a lack of respect; this led to a huge loss of talent.

Pros

A great mission obviously and a handful of talented colleagues that are enjoyable to work with and want to improve things.

Cons

Leadership is completely tone-deaf. Constantly asking for feedback but never making any real impactful changes. So many glaringly bad employees including some managers that are just allowed to exist. The reward for being a good employee = more work piled on your plate that is outside of your role but the person who should be doing it is incapable of doing it well or doing it at all. There are no benefits for working hard. Entire teams suffer under bad managers. The good employees get sick of it and move on, the bad employees continue coasting.

Pros

Love working for a place that helps so many children. Love the staff (co-workers) and the actual work. Benefits and pay are comparable.

Cons

Leadership is horrible. There is no respect for staff. Most don't even take the time to understand what staff are capable of. We are hired as experts in our field, but not involved in any of the decisions. Many poor choices are made without input from the experts and the experts then pay the price for those poor choices. Most leadership is highly unavailable which only leads to more frustration. In the past year there have been a large number of firings. Morale is at an all time low and turnover is increasing. Leadership does not seem to mind the turnover, just less staff to deal with. Work life balance is non-existent.
