Pros

Benefits for part time people. Sometimes the culture on a store level is good.

Cons

Higher ups have unachievable expectations and do nothing to help. Everything is your fault. Constantly understaffed and will pull people from one store to help at another and be disappointed when their insane standards aren’t met. You will never get a reasonable raise. 50 cents is considered a good raise by their standards. They’ll blame you for sales being low even though we’re literally in a recession and the beauty industry is suffering since it isn’t a necessity. They just push and push and push until you legit have a mental breakdown and then they tell you to suck it up. Corporate culture is abhorrent. All they care about is money and greed and could not care less about the people. Managers are expected to work 10 days in a row if that’s what it takes. No work/life balance. Don’t expect to have two days off in a row ever. You’ll get calls and texts all the time on your days off so you’re basically always working. But someone above you can take a week off every other month and not be bothered. I could go on forever.

Pros

Flexible hours, get to set your own schedule for the most part as a manager. Good insurance, benefits if you are able to use them. Day to day work is pleasant especially as you develop relationships with customers and your team.

Cons

Pay and raises are ridiculous for the amount of work and expectations. They gave entry level associates a $3 an hour raise across the board but nothing for managers. They expect you to be a social media wizard posting daily, signing people up for credit cards, and selling tickets to virtual shows nobody wants. You are always expected to be the one to step up and cover if your staff isn’t responsible which why would they be when their pay and hours are so low. The upper management varies but they are out of touch and they can be micromanaging and visit frequently which makes it hard to just do the day to day work. Price changes and stock issues are frequent which leads to complaints from customers which you have to handle even though you aren’t making the decisions that make it that way. You get held responsible for corporate’s shooting from the hip decisions all the time. A $10,000 a year raise would be ACTUALLY competitive and be the only way I might consider staying with this company long term. They take advantage of the mostly female workforce that isn’t always pushing for improved compensation the way you might see in other industries.

Pros

Customers are amazing to work with, flexible schedules

Cons

No support from management, lack of clear training, corporate focus is e-commerce and store business. New management in home office is out of touch with the business, does not take responsibility or suggestions from the people who are the eyes and ears of the customer. The entire corporation of CosmoProf/BSG aka Sally Beauty Holdings has lost sight of the customer entirely. Carry a brand or don’t… cherry pick for professionals doesn’t work. Retail mindset trying to be a distributor
