Pros

The office locations are good

Cons

For anyone that is thinking of joining Costello Medical, I would advise probing about workload, expectations and the company culture. Unfortuantely, employees are micromanaged and provided unrealstic expections for tasks leading to a highly stressful envinroment. The senior team at Costello lack empathy and support because they are so busy and stressed themselves. Even their clients have realised that the employees are overworked. Sadly, I would not recommend working here.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your experience at Costello Medical. We take such feedback seriously as we strive to maintain a supportive workplace for all our colleagues. We acknowledge that the client-facing nature of our work can result in periods of higher pressure or longer working hours, however this should not be the norm and we recognise the importance of a good work-life balance for all colleagues at Costello Medical. For this reason, we take proactive steps such as monitoring timesheet data, encouraging colleagues to come forward if their workload or hours feel unsustainable, and growing our team to ensure that projects are adequately resourced. Recent employee survey feedback from 2024 suggests that generally colleagues are satisfied in this area; 95% of colleagues in the UK were strongly satisfied, satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the support they receive, whilst 84% were strongly satisfied, satisfied or somewhat satisfied with their wellbeing. We recognise that we do not get this right all of the time, but I hope that this provides reassurance that it is an area that we both actively monitor and pay attention to as a Leadership team. If you have any more detail to provide on the feedback above, we would welcome it and would encourage you to reach out. Thank you once again for sharing your insights. We wish you the best in your future endeavours.

High pressure, unreasonable workload

Pros

- Colleagues are generally nice and friendly on the surface

Cons

- Extremely high stress and high-intensity work, allocated unreasonably little amount of time for the work we have to complete - Toxic positivity and perfectionist culture where issues are always twisted to be a good thing when they are clearly not - If you flag issues with the workload or are caught working after hours, you will be blamed and accused of not being efficient enough, when the truth is everyone is secretly working way longer hours than they appear to try to seem like they are managing fine - e.g., I see documents saved at 3am on a Sunday, and my colleague sends a scheduled message for 8am Monday to tell me the document has been reviewed - every single thing you say, every email you send, every action or word you type will be picked apart and criticised, zero tolerance for minor “mistakes” or rather anything that doesn’t fit the standard “Costello” style, which leaves employees in a constant state of hypervigilance and questioning their competency

Pros

Probably a good place for new grads

Cons

The work experience at Costello really depends on the team one is assigned to. My boss was a bully and made my days truly miserable at Costello. The issue seems routed in the practice of promoting individuals based solely on technical skills and tenure, disregarding their interpersonal abilities and emotional intelligence. Furthermore, certain team members were unapproachable, creating a barrier to seeking help without feeling burdensome. During my brief tenure, I encountered issues such as lack of trust, micromanagement and a sense of being treated like a child, all of which are detrimental to fostering a positive company culture. The communication and support were also lacking in my team, with an evident gap between extensive onboarding documents and practical guidance on the job. Despite working in close proximity, communication primarily took place through MS Teams, even for matters that could easily be addressed in person. Attempts to discuss work-related matters face-to-face were met with displeasure as if it were an inconvenience. Constant Teams notifications made focused work nearly impossible, adding extra layers of disconnect and frustration to the overall work experience. All these challenges and issues to then they just eventually convey that you are not suitable for the position. Work-life balance was also very poor.
