Pros

The employee discount and employee discount days. And special sales they offer for employees only.

Cons

Poor advancement opportunites and promotions for minorities and women. They hire, promote, train according to the "Good Ole Boy's" system. And the vacation time is horrible as well as the insurance benefits. Minorities and women should be given the opportunity to advance with in the corporation.

Pros

Experience in Retail. Brand recognition. They used to have good retirement, not sure if they still do. Can learn several areas in retail, including operations and shipping.

Cons

Micro management. Very little trust in employees. (Even require all contents of purses to be put in clear plastic bags due to theft) The owners are not connected to the employees, nor do they communicate the proper value of Human Resources - the value of the people who reflect their brand every day. The communication is very one sided - the Dillard's family down. The regional managers instilled fear into the associates. The associates pay was frequently cut, even when economic and local conditions prevented sales growth. The demotivation was a cancer in the organization. It is a shame to see the Dillard name lose market share.

Dillards: Image vs Reality

Pros

The company is working to improve their customer service, which is commendable. There is great emphasis on coaching and training. Dillards pays well up front and expects the employee to prove their worth.

Cons

Dillards is a revolving door. The company has high turnover and the moral among the sales staff is low. Management is rarely seen on the sales floor. The walk and the talk of managment is incongruous. Great merchandise, but poor visual presentation.
