Pros

- Edge is part of a global company (Ascential) - Not much else

Cons

I have thought a lot about this topic since leaving Edge. There is so much you can say is a con for Edge its laughable. One of the central problems is the leadership team and CEO. Who is the leader? Employees can't answer that because there are two that could take the role of CEO. Neither options really engage with their employees. There needs to be one leader with experience running a data company put in charge. Beyond that, the next level down is not much better. The CMO is uninterested in his employees or their development, it is very clear that he is only concerned with making himself look better to his peers and leadership. He is constantly on his phone and disengaged, even during meetings. He never defends his employees or their work. I only ever heard from him when he criticized my work. I came in early and stayed late to make sure I got my work done, but he never thought it was enough. He is always working and expects his employees to do the same, because of this my manager was never happy with my work, because it rolls down hill and she was getting just as much criticism. It's obvious that hes under-qualified to lead the Marketing team for such a growing company since it's common discussion behind his back amongst his team in the Boston office (I'm sure the other offices share the opinion, but I mainly worked with the team in Boston). Because of this culture, my manager was one of the worst offenders behind his back. She was always telling other employees that she should be CMO, and was generally gossipy and manipulative about the whole team, which has lead to a lot of the team getting fired or leaving. You can't really blame her and no one corrects her because it is the culture of that office and Edge to be manipulative. PRNG was a much more positive office. Prior to Edge, this company used to be 4, but the Boston office is mostly made of former Clavis and PlanetRetail RNG teams. The old clavis team are extremely manipulative, negative, and gossipy, which seems to be the culture of how they ran as a company. Since then, they have poisoned the Boston office. Which is why I would advise potential employees to avoid this place, or else you might be fired or "made redundant" because of all the games.

Underpaid, overworked.

Pros

There are some great people and smart people here. The location and office are very nice.

Cons

Parent company Ascential is micromanaging the offices of the four brands that make up Edge. The unnecessary levels of leadership and bureaucracy stifle innovation and disconnect leadership from what actually goes on day to day. Ascential CEO has sold investors on a shiny, new, integrated dashboard but there are major issues underneath our tech stacks. The Sandy office is hemorrhaging tech talent. The brand cannot retain talent due to constant issues "fires" and hiring/spending freezes by Ascential. The most profitable office across Edge in Sandy is not free to hire to relieve overworked teams and understaffed tech teams. We constantly miss deadlines that we communicate to clients and several product have been broken for over six months. We do not deserve the clients that we have.

Great people, lack of communication between London and SLC

Pros

There are some wonderful people who work at the SLC office. They have snacks in the break room, and a foosball and ping pong table. Very lenient WFH policy and unlimited sick days. You can tell they are “trying” to make it a great place to work. I learned a lot about e-commerce the first year I was there.

Cons

Senior Leadership in London is out of touch with the needs of the team in SLC. Several high performing individuals were not promoted or appreciated. They would take months and months on internal salary negotiations. Personally tried getting a promotion for 6 months and kept being told “waiting on senior leadership to approve”. Applied for a different role in the company to got a verbal offer. After 2 months of hassling about timeframe and details I found out they were no longer filling the role. I really think they are working to fix these issues, but haven’t seen anything in my time. Morale is low because people know there are other jobs out there in SLC. Ended up finding another role outside the company because I felt stuck and nobody in the SLC office could help, and nobody in London took us seriously. They “promote” based on years of experience outside the company rather than personal value to company. Some people do not work and nothing happens to them. The Unlimited sick days became a problem when everyone else on my team would be sick at least once a week. Once again London didn’t do anything about it, and the “sick” employees workloads got pushed on those who would actually show up for work. If you are looking for a job in which you mindlessly work and just want a paycheck, Edge is the place to be. (Half of Tech only works 36 hours on their long weeks, see other Glassdoor reviews) If you are looking for a company that will mentor you and create a great career path then look elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback. Edge by Ascential is making great strides in heightening our communication and strengthening our leadership team. We pride ourselves on our flexible working and unlimited sick leave policies as we trust our employees to manage themselves and meet the deadlines outlined for them. Our management team will continue to hold employees accountable and hire employees who take pride in their work and their work ethic. Edge has also made great strides in advertising vacancies throughout the business and encouraging employees to apply when opportunities arise. We also spent time coaching employees on how to set personal goals and action plans for career growth. Lastly, our local leadership team has been empowered to manage their own department budget and determine when and where raises are appropriate.
