Pros

The IT department did a phenomenal job of adapting to COVID-19. IT support was outstanding, and in general, Engineers are provided with the tools they need to get the job done.

Cons

I have never, in my entire career, worked for a company that was as confused as Cubic is. Any internal commitment to a course of action was generally worth less than the cost of the email that conveyed it. In retrospect, given the acquisition, this makes more sense (can you say "pump and dump" 3x really fast?). I'm surprised that Brad Feldmann is still helming anything. I did appreciate his COVID strategy, but if he'd only applied that same strategic thinking to the rest of the company, Cubic could have done some really neat things. The provincial in-fighting and unprofessional conduct among senior technical staff in San Diego make daily work like dealing with 7 year olds. Avoid... The best was having 401K contributions turned off for about six months. We were told that this occurred to prevent layoffs. Layoffs occurred. Then it became obvious that the real reason (among other actions) was to prop up accounting numbers and make the company more palatable for sale.

Pros

My manager was awesome. Job was diverse and creativity was welcomed. Salary was pretty good, even if I was technically doing two types of positions. Co-workers were also good, some great, actually. Work life balance was also pretty good. All credit to that goes to my manager and the managers I've had before my last one.

Cons

In the end, my loyalty seemed to not be valued. My hard work showed and I met deadlines before the due date. Only called in sick when actually sick, and hardly took time off. The thing that bothered me the most was the way they laid me off. Group Teams video meeting, but the person giving us the news was not on video. Just a black screen, telling you that was your last day and that after that meeting your access will be cut off. And it was. I almost felt like an email would've been better than that black screen. That is really the only time I felt bad about the way things went. I know corporate life brings in the usual fiscal year layoffs, but it just felt wrong the way it was done, in my opinion.
