Working at FullStack Labs (FSL) has been a variety of new and positive experiences. When seeking new employment, I was searching for a constructive and challenging environment, fair compensation, and work-life balance. FSL has been just that and so much more. FSL is a consultancy which strives to be not just good, but great. This creates a challenging, fast-paced, ever-changing / growing environment which is fantastic for the movers and shakers that love to not only be a part of an expanding and succeeding business but aim to leave a footprint within. The partners strive to compensate fairly and competitively with added bonuses for salary workers. In what salary job have you ever experienced pay for working over 40 hours? None of mine. In my past life I was required to work 50, even 60 hours making my salary breakdown less than my staff’s compensation. FSL has got this base covered! Work-life balance was of utmost importance when selecting a new position. FSL provides generous vacation packages that increase with tenure, the opportunity to convert OT hours in vacation, the ability to work shorter Fridays if OT has been worked throughout the week, and the the opportunity to work from home. Kick back and enjoy that much needed leisure time. With all of these benefits, how could I not enjoy working here? But, the cherry on top are the owners, David Jackson and Mike Piccolo. Two guys who are down-to-earth, open-minded, serious about their people and their business, and come to work with one objective -- build and maintain a stable and growing business for our success and theirs.
Cons
There are two aspects of FSL life which can be testing, but in a positive way if you choose to make it so. The first, FSL being an organization of feedback, and the second, a culture which requires independent, self motivated, and resourceful people. FSL is an organization of feedback which, let’s face it, nobody enjoys receiving feedback, even the most constructive kind. What makes or breaks this, is the choice of how to perceive it and what to do with it. As I mentioned before, FSL strives to be not just good, but great. With continuous feedback the team and leadership are constantly seeking improvement in all aspects of the business. Whether it be individually focused or generally to the org, we improve and grow together; view the feedback as such and its a guide for improvement, not criticism. Beginning employment at FSL was a bit intimidating only for the adventure into a new and unknown area of software development. While there is training and support to be had, you either have to go and get it or be resourceful enough to figure something out your own. Though this can be a bumpy road at first, with it comes a beautiful thing in the future: autonomy. When the leadership trusts in the productive quality of work that you provide, you will have just that.
