Pros

they will work with your life schedule but the pay is very low compared to similar jobs at other companies.

Cons

Bait & Switch. I was told several things in the interview, but things changed once I started. I was told I would work 25-35 hours per week for 3 months. The amount of work I received could have easily put me up to and over 40 hours per week if I had allowed that.My boss asked, no demanded, on at least two occasions that I run errands for her before and after work, off the clock. I was also told my hours would drop in December to 10-15 per week, that did not happen until I questioned and complained. I was told hours would pick back up, middle to end of February and that did not happen. I was offered a lower paying position to increase my hours, when I decided not to take that, they removed my job duties and gave them to someone else. They told me not to clock in until further notice. It's been five weeks. I have complained to corporate in KS. They "investigated" got back to me and I was told that the management would be calling me to return to work in the next week or two. They refuse to furlough me or lay me off and there is no reason to fire me. Wow. Never I have ever seen such unprofessional, unethical and low class behavior from a management team. Many of the office managers were unhappy and the morale was low in most offices of this district. A long time Tax Pro told me that she would not recommend me getting my taxes done there, too expensive for what they offer. Wow, this blew me away. I"ll check out my next employer more carefully. If you are desperate, this may be a good place to get some experience. Other than that, I would not recommend working here.

Pros

H&R Block provides thorough training, and employees should expect to study continuously throughout the season. The training is valuable and helps build a strong understanding of tax preparation. There are opportunities to "level up," and advancing through the certification levels can lead to higher pay over time. Management is approachable and readily available when assistance is needed.

Cons

The position is seasonal, and the starting pay is $12 per hour. During peak tax season, employees may work very long hours—sometimes up to 10 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week—which can be physically and mentally exhausting. In my first month, I also found that some of the staff were not especially welcoming, which made the initial adjustment more challenging.
