Pros

This job was ok. The leaders were great. You meet some nice Tax Professionals and client. Very flexible with your schedule. Workload was ok too.

Cons

There was a lot of negative things I experienced during my time with H&R Block. First off, you meet some rude clients that are not specific about what they want over the phone. They come in all mad and CLAIM they are coming in for something else and that they mentioned it when CLEARLY THEY DIDN'T. Second, the manager messes up on the schedule all the time and blames the leaders for it. The manager was over 60 and manages a business of their own. Third, I learned about some of the work CSPs have to do 3 MONTHS AFTER STARTING THE POSITION. I still don't know why it took them so long to tell me I was supposed to do specific things, for example connect calls. I had a manager from a different location tell me what I'm suppose to do and how to do it. Fourth, they want CSPs to clean the restrooms. They should pay at least $2-$3 more for that. Lastly, there was a tax pro at my office that I hated. One moment they are nice to me, the next rude and grumpy. This person was super nosy. They will stand in the middle of the walkway and listens to the conversations everyone had. Ever time I checked a client in, this tax pro can hear from where their desk is at. The one time I didn't walk up to them and notified them that their client was there, they had the audacity to say out loud, in front of the client, that next time I should notify them. That was very rude and unprofessional for them to do, they should've waited until after their client left to talk to me.

Pros

H&R Block provides thorough training, and employees should expect to study continuously throughout the season. The training is valuable and helps build a strong understanding of tax preparation. There are opportunities to "level up," and advancing through the certification levels can lead to higher pay over time. Management is approachable and readily available when assistance is needed.

Cons

The position is seasonal, and the starting pay is $12 per hour. During peak tax season, employees may work very long hours—sometimes up to 10 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week—which can be physically and mentally exhausting. In my first month, I also found that some of the staff were not especially welcoming, which made the initial adjustment more challenging.
