Pros

- There are some genuinely good people to work with - A great feeling to help many people during stressful tax times

Cons

- Constant executive course correcting and lay-offs. I've never seen a company cycle through so many high-level people and it never seems to end. I'd like to see how much they spend a year on separation agreements. - The brand is somewhat tainted, Jeff Jones cares very much about getting on the cover of Fortune or Fast Company but at the end of the day it's a strip mall tax preparer who rips off their customers. It's only a matter of time that it becomes the next Sears or JC Penny. - Business is in decline, just look at the last results presentation, they filed less returns this year than last. Now that covid years are over, reality will set in, they will continue to be a business in decline which means for more quick decisions and course correcting to save face with investors. - Incompetent IT department will ensure the company remains irrelevant when it comes to innovation and digital transformation.

Pros

H&R Block provides thorough training, and employees should expect to study continuously throughout the season. The training is valuable and helps build a strong understanding of tax preparation. There are opportunities to "level up," and advancing through the certification levels can lead to higher pay over time. Management is approachable and readily available when assistance is needed.

Cons

The position is seasonal, and the starting pay is $12 per hour. During peak tax season, employees may work very long hours—sometimes up to 10 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week—which can be physically and mentally exhausting. In my first month, I also found that some of the staff were not especially welcoming, which made the initial adjustment more challenging.
