Pros

Meeting different people and helping them. Having a varied day, can be crowded and loud one hour and by the next hour no customers. The tax prep classes ahv a lot of strength to them, lots of practice scenarios, high requirements of continuing education. I like working with people who know what they are doing.

Cons

Not sure that they really want return customers because the main promotional goes to new clients only. Over the past 6 years the amount of assistance that can be given - knocking off some of the preparation cost - has dwindled down to maybe $150 for each TaxPro to use for the season. They used to be able to really help people who they felt needed it, including some clients who had been with them a long time but were tempted to go elsewhere because other places are giving better incentives. Makes no sense that they don't do anything to keep clients. It is seasonal work 4 months, so no benefits and almost zero room for advancement.

Pros

H&R Block provides thorough training, and employees should expect to study continuously throughout the season. The training is valuable and helps build a strong understanding of tax preparation. There are opportunities to "level up," and advancing through the certification levels can lead to higher pay over time. Management is approachable and readily available when assistance is needed.

Cons

The position is seasonal, and the starting pay is $12 per hour. During peak tax season, employees may work very long hours—sometimes up to 10 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week—which can be physically and mentally exhausting. In my first month, I also found that some of the staff were not especially welcoming, which made the initial adjustment more challenging.
