Pros

I came to Empower as part of the MassMutual Acquisition. Although the transition period was challenging (as transitions generally are), I have come to truly appreciate Empower's growth mindset as they constantly trying to improve how we support our customers! Managing a client facing team makes me truly appreciate the investments that are being made into technology, improvements, and innovation to be able to provide the best possible customer care. Additionally, I appreciate Empower's support of work/life balance as evidenced by things like unlimited time off for exempt employees and the consistently reevaluated and enhanced benefits packages as balance is critical for employee longevity. Finally, my very favorite part of working for Empower is their open-mindedness about remote work and I absolutely love my work from home arrangement!

Cons

Empower is only about a decade old (as compared to MassMutual, a company which pre-dated the Civil Warl), as such some things about the culture is still evolving. Every year I see progress made on this front, but every now and then I am surprised to find a wrinkle that has yet to be worked out!

Pros

I've worked at Empower for nearly 10 years, and the benefits are better than I've experienced at any previous employers. I can work fully remote, have access to great healthcare coverage, and have unlimited time off. I also have free access to managed accounts through my 401(k) to optimize its value, The executive leadership is very communicative, which is another difference from my previous employers. My manager oversees my projects and assists me when necessary, but I'm given the freedom to work independently and also am encouraged to bring ideas and feedback to enhance our end-user experience. I feel fortunate to be employed at Empower.

Cons

Frequent M&A activity has created some job instability and has led to quite a few re-orgs throughout the enterprise. I think the company has lost some valuable talent because of this instability, which is unfortunate. There's not a lot of "status quo" at Empower - things change quickly, and you must adapt as needed. Not everyone enjoys change, which is a crucial component of being employed at this company.
