Pros

Other jobs will look at your experience and think it is valuable so that when you leave this disaster you may be able to work somewhere that actually respects their employees. This place is good for a new college graduate looking to get experience and can't get hired anywhere else.

Cons

Management in the infectious disease department doesn't even know what their staff does. The massive sample volume coupled with unrealistic turnaround times and forever breaking equipment makes for high employee turnover and constant staffing issues. This in turn makes for a low moral and shift to shift conflicts. I never got lunches or breaks and had to stay late almost everyday just to try and get everything done. Once you have been there over 6 months you are basically considered a senior tech and must pick up slack since there is no one more experienced there then you. Finally the raises are pathetic for how hard some employees work. Don't expect larger than a $0.30 raise even if you deserve it. There is also no growth potential here so just get experience and get out.

Pros

None other than it’s a job

Cons

Miserable pay. No chance for advancement. Pitiful raises if you get a raise at all. Treated like cattle. Poor management. None of the managers or supervisors have any training or management experience and it shows. Expect you to rearrange your schedule on a moment’s notice so forget about work/life balance. Even if you go above and beyond, you will still be told you aren’t doing enough. Dead end job. High turnover because most people are smart enough to figure out what this company is about and get out not long after they’re hired. Nothing done about the guy who constantly harasses female coworkers. Equipment out of commission, like hoods and air circulator, puts everyone’s health at risk. The place is risky for your health overall. You are better off working at Walmart or MacDonald’s because you’ll get the same pay, learn the same amount of skills, and not worry that you’ll get cancer every time you go to work.
