Pros

Local family-run company. Free daily meal. Great locations.

Cons

Micromanagement from managers is never-ending. Management constantly belittles hourly workers in front of guests. Pay is very low compared to other places in San Diego. No real opportunity for growth. Management is only concerned with keeping their upper-class image and not worrying about making employees or guests enjoy enjoyable experiences.

Pros

Co-workers have the desire to see the company succeed and grow with it.

Cons

They expect you to work a ridiculous amount of hours. I'm not talking about once or twice a week, I'm referring to 24/7/365 and they don't care about your well-being. All HR management and applicant tracking systems are outdated, all onboarding paperwork is manual, and there's always an issue with payroll. Most softwares are also outdated in areas such as the front desk and f&b.

Pros

Location, friends and family discount

Cons

I worked at Evans Hotels for many years. Company culture is weird. They tried to implement a corporate social responsibility program to make employees feel heard and involved. I give them credit for trying, but it was pretty disorganized and at the end of the day, leadership vetoed many of the great initiatives the employees tried to implement. This program came to a screeching halt shortly after Covid hit. This is a small family-run company with very weird politics and policies. Unfortunately, you can't trust management and when you need them the most, they won't support you. Management will micromanage you until you're miserable and there was a lot of turnover in my dept. because of this. I worked with many poor communicators who never knew what they wanted and this caused much confusion, miscommunication and unnecessary stress on employees. Most in VP or director-level roles have been there for 20, 30 + years and are very resistant to new ideas and perspectives. The most vocal owner is an odd, unstable person to say the least. This person leads with fear, a real Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type individual who will say the most inappropriate things without any repercussions. Overall I had experiences ranging from good to extremely awful while working here. I would not recommend, especially if working in a corp. department where you would be exposed to the politics and chaos.
