      Good Company; different culture

      Pros

      Express Scripts is a large company that has a good future in the PBM industry; is not likely to be bought by another company, and will continue to grow and prosper leading to general job stability.

      Cons

      I originally worked for Medco Health, which was acquired by Express Scripts in April 2012. The Medco culture was one of innovation, quality and reliability, as well as improving processes and reducing overall costs. Express Scripts appeared - during the year I worked as an ESI employee - to be focused more on reducing overall costs. The departments do not work as well with one another as what we had at Medco, so there is always some strife and stress to deal with.

      Pros

      The organization has a strong focus on operational success. This includes a lean/continuous improvement culture focused on long term results for the patient and client, as well as a laser focus on successfully transferring patients to a single operating platform through integration.

      Cons

      The Company has a fabulous rhetoric regarding how it values employees - on paper ("you belong here"); however, there is not enough integrity and skill throughout the organization to truly drive employee engagement. Overall, tenure at the organization averages less than 5 years, the 2013 integrated benefit transition failed miserably on several fronts, with little or no sense of urgency from the highest level of the organization (including failing to enroll or continue employee benefits for 2 weeks to 2 months in some states). Additionally, the compensation and total rewards strategy is driven by cost versus an intent to retain key contributors.
