This place pride's itself on breaking people down and burning them out

Pros

- some really hard working IC's across the business - pay was decent but given you had to work 60+ hours per week to meet the expectations of leadership, it wasn't great

Cons

- leadership, leadership, leadership. From the top down, the company is led by individuals with large egos who love pushing the message that "Fetch isn't for everyone". The CEO desperately tries to get people to believe he's this tech visionary... dude, you created a rewards app that barely works, you're not Zuckerberg. This was perfectly shown by his spending of $20 million on a super bowl ad that had no measurable impact on MAU's for the platform. Yes we saw a spike in sign ups, but leadership never actually did anything to get value from those sign ups. - Surrounding the CEO are a gaggle of "yes men" (and women) who only exist to stroke his ego and make the lives of the IC's in their reporting chain more difficult - The people team is completely ineffective, they know that what they are doing is wrong and yet they continue to do it because no one, especially the head of people has the spine to stand up for what's right - Don't get me started on one particular member of the the engineering leadership team, although they all have areas they need to improve in, but the woman I have in mind is one of the most disorganized, angry, and bitter people I have ever met. This typically wouldn’t bother me, but it bleeds into the work she does and how she collaborates with others. I still don't understand what she does outside of making mountains out of mole hills. - The company operates in a way that will almost certainly get them fined for being out of compliance with regulatory standards. This is a fact and it’s often been said that “compliance is a bad word”. - The big push for AI by non technical leaders is laughable. The people team thinks they are leading the charge in AI adoption but I'd be surprised if anyone on the recruiting team knows how to open a pdf - From what I've heard, new leaders were brought into the people team from Meta and they cleared house of anyone who didn't also come from Meta. Good job building the echo chamber! - promotions are non existent unless you are friendly with the right people - leadership in eng will actively acknowledge certain people are a detriment to the culture and then do nothing about it - I honestly can't keep typing, I'd be here for 5 years telling you all about the issues this place has. - RUN don't walk away from this place

No salary makes the toxicity worth it

Pros

The pay is good. Many coworkers are excellent.

Cons

My time at Fetch was plagued by feelings of near daily confusion and frustration. Established norms at other companies seemed to be absent at Fetch. These often were the foundational pillars of what makes for a good business. For example, there was almost no onboarding process. The expectation relayed to me was that new hires should “onboard themselves.” It was a sink or swim environment, which several employees praised as a positive value during my time there. In my opinion, it is primarily by the tremendous efforts of the employees that Fetch chugs along and produces a usable product. Impactful, respectful leadership with any realistic vision seemed to me to be nonexistent. Many employees performed enthusiastic company loyalty to retain their jobs or climb the corporate ladder. Authentic dialogue with coworkers felt virtually impossible for this reason. It was hard to know who to trust. From what I saw, you were unlikely to be supported by your peers if you had any feedback whatsoever about how things are done at Fetch. People seemed to continuously choose to protect their jobs over trying to support each other or improve the company processes/culture. It was totally unsurprising to me when the most recent round of layoffs arrived. I personally believe that Fetch is a deeply toxic, fear-based culture at almost every level. I question if it can be saved. It felt like the culture was operating by design during my time there, so I am not sure if leadership thinks any change is necessary. There is no world wherein I would recommend this experience to anyone.

Pros

The benefits and pay are great.

Cons

Feels like you are working for consultants, not tech leaders. Your managers meet with you for their own sake, not yours and you will never have any meaningful interaction with any VP level. They look down on ICs and see them as a commodity not people. In my time there I saw a layoffs every 2-3 like clockworks. Avoid at all costs.
