Cool Projects, Not worth the toxicity

Pros

The work is very interesting and very rewarding. The direct coworkers are by and large great to work with as well

Cons

Firefly, with few notable exceptions, promotes the wrong people to management, truly being emblematic of the Peter Principle (rising to a respective level of incompetence) Upper Management agrees to unrealistic timelines without consulting the actual workers Middle Management is inconsistent at best at telling upper management the timelines don't work, which leaves the actual workers to tell them. However, when the workers do, the managers are also inconsistent about shielding them from the blow-back. Unprofessional behavior is not just accepted, but often rewarded if you're in the "in group"

Cool Mission - Poorly Led

Pros

Every day you get to see space hardware being built - you're literally doing rocket science. This creates a lot of learning opportunities for young engineers. Health benefits are pretty solid.

Cons

Very stressful environment. Directors are under extreme stress from the CEO (who is under extreme pressure from the primary investor) who in turn, take it out on their direct reports. The program schedule for first launch is completely unrealistic, which creates this stressful environment. Often times, when show stopping issues come up, an ad hoc, half thought out solution is what results, not an engineered solution backed up by analysis. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't. Work/life balance pretty much non-existent.

Pros

Normal people around you are great to work with, management not so much. It's an exciting place to work for sure, I was allowed to head several projects and see them through production as someone new to the industry.

Cons

Not a good place to work if you are outspoken. Given the record of talented people who have been fired or left of their own accord, Firefly is building a company full of Yes-[wo]men who have no will to speak up against management when things are clearly not working as intended.
