Pros

Mostly open scheduling for advanced engineers. Coffee is still free.

Cons

The new company name "Flexential" is a huge joke. This is how they broke the news to us employees: Senior leader in a conference room full of employees says "Guys, your probably going to hate the new name, but here it is...". I'm not joking, this is how they presented the new company brand name to us. The new combined company health benefits are among the worst in the industry now, premiums are about 150% higher then before the merger for like plans, and benefits and plan choices are substantially reduced. Pay rate for skilled engineers is about $20K to $50K a year lower then competing companies so all the good talent is leaving or has already quit. As a result customer satisfaction is at an all time low and customer churn is at an all time high. Customers are waiting days or sometimes weeks to get simple issues fixed since no one knows whats going on or cares enough to try to fix things. Email threads about customer issues go on and on without resolution, or are just ignored. I'm finding it hard to get any meaningful project work done in a timely manner because I'm putting out fires all day long.

Thanks for leaving feedback. We worked REALLY hard to have fun with our new brand including teasing a number of elements leading into the Brand Reveal. We themed things through a fun movie campaign including popcorn, movie tickets, red carpets, you name it! Most feedback on the events and teasers were HUGELY positive including the terrific video reveal we hosted both internally and externally. The company is spending the same or more on our benefits plans but the money is distributed a number of different ways rather than investing every dollar into a medical plan. We now offer 2 medical plans including an HSA with seed money, increased life and AD&D for any employee that makes over $50k, a bonus plan for all exempt employees (where previously most employees in the West were not bonus eligible) and an increased 401k match. We also increased leave opportunities for maternity and paternity leave as well as offer unlimited PTO.

Bad for Colorado

Pros

The BEST co-workers I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with. No shortage of challenging work.

Cons

Prior to being acquired by Peak10, ViaWest was wrought with politics one would only expect to find in larger companies. After the acquisition and subsequent transition to "Flexential," Colorado employees are quickly being sent to the chopping block. There is little regard for past knowledge, history or tenure when it comes to the North Carolina-Based management team. Their mission is to consolidate the base of operation to specific markets, without compassion. If you are considering going to work for Flexential, know there will never be a time when your value is considered essential to the organization, and the management team will do whatever they want to you at any time with complete disregard for your situation. This same statement applies to customer relationships, which are also being discarded due to changing product offerings. There is no cohesive business strategy. You will never get the same story twice.

Thanks for leaving feedback. Since the combination of ViaWest and Peak 10, the company boasts dual HQ in both Charlotte and Denver and our executive team is a melded one - it's split almost exactly between the 2 sites! A coincidence but pretty nice that we have legacy leaders with deep heritage from both companies. This being said - the "new" team is working hard to embrace where we came from while forging a NEW, fresh path forward for our team. We did a full strategy session in the fall of 2017 with a cohesive roll out to managers in late fall to ensure all our employees were privy to a cohesive message and that the management team fully understood expectations and how their team can best support / engage around the objectives. Further, our All Hands meetings that are held at least quarterly are centered around the same written tenets within that plan. Finally, I hope that you received your written copy of the plan we distributed to every employee and new hire. It's important to us that you know what we are striving to do here and how you fit into our success as a company. When we rebranded as Flexential - we identified with a tagline of "The Power of People in a Technical World". We know our people define who we are and we act like it on a daily basis by investing back in their personal and professional growth. Whether that is supporting someone through dealing with an aging parent, seeing you through the adoption of a child, offering you unlimited PTO so you can support Hurricane efforts, we stand behind you. We're committed to your career growth as well by offering training, certifications and tuition reimbursement. We want you at Flexential for the long-term.

Pros

Good data centers, not the best, but above average. A few employees remain that have pride in their work.

Cons

Even the newest data centers don't use adiabatic cooling, renewable energy or anything leading edge. The company seems to be in the process of being "Bained", as in Bain Capital. You cut all long term projects. Cut operating costs to the bone. Remove as many employee benefits as possible. Dangle huge incentives to the senior management team to carry out the dirty work. This boosts short term profits to investors until the business starts to fall apart and then sell of the pieces to competitors for a profit. Capitalism at its best. Too bad for the employees. Oh yea, the name is the worst.

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. After the acquisition, the company did engage Bain to work with us to drive our initial integration plan and organizational construct. Since then, the local teams have been at work on the integration of the two companies. We expect to be fully integrated by Q1 2019. With regard to employee benefits, we've added some benefits such as unlimited PTO, richer tuition assistance and technical certifications, increased life insurance and for our Western employees, our most significant enrichment was to take our 401k match from a 50% match on 4% of salary to a 75% match on 6% of salary.
