RUN don't walk away from this company

Pros

work from home, no daily commute, benefits are great (salary is not)

Cons

atmosphere of intimidation, ZERO student buy in or student accountability, if you try to maintain the academic integrity or rigor in your classroom you are accused of wearing a "justice cape" and being out to get your students. You are disrespected and undermined constantly. The technology, policies, and procedures are incredibly out of date and inefficient. The pay is below most of the districts in florida. Your teacher evaluation is subjective to your principals whims. If you are thinking of applying here...RUN.

Telemarketing not Teaching

Pros

The service they provide students is good as far as course availability and flexibility. Employees are very helpful and support each other. You can work from home.

Cons

If you are a teacher, and I mean a teacher that loves to stand in the front of that classroom, this job is not for you. This job, for all the rhetoric about education they spew, is a telemarketing job. You are calling students or parents or both daily. It's 95 percent making/logging calls but 5% teaching. You are available from 8am-8pm to students and have to schedule personal time around that. Class size is about 166 kids per teacher max. They will tell you that with just 35 calls a day you can get this job done every week, but forget to mention all the other types of calls that you must make as well as the amount of grading that has to be done. But wait there is more, what happens if a student cheats? Well, that's a nice time consuming document you get to fill out on-line as well. I could go on but.... as I said, if you are a teacher, this is not for you.

Pros

The culture is student-centered. I'd recommend FLVS for students any day. They are cutting-edge when it comes to K-12 online learning.

Cons

FLVS thinks they own you. They expect you to work 60+ hours per week. They say they value work/life balance, but in practice, they do not.
