Pros

Friendly recruiters and good HR contact. They are on top of keeping in touch with you

Cons

A variety of assessment tests are used to gauge if you're a good fit. They are a Wonderlic, written math (no calculator), and english comprehension. The interview was laid back. I was asked about my AV experience and was asked silly AV questions: "what's a common resolution", "what's VOIP stand for?" "what's the threshold of human hearing?". Starting offer is a joke, I was offered $55,000 and it was not negotiable... I almost laughed when the HR person told me this.

Great and rewarding sales career

Pros

I’ve been working for Ford for a few years now as a salesperson and I have to say it is a rewarding career. With technology being almost a necessity, there are a lot of opportunities to win and help prospective companies with their AV infrastructure. There is a bit of a learning curve for salespeople who are not familiar with AV and IT - it took me a while to become familiar with the technology itself. It will take hours after work on weeknights or weekends to study and learn the technology and where Ford AV can help companies, but it is worth it. Ford is also a company that is big on values and principles. It is hard to come across a company that operates this way. The Fords understand that people are the most important asset in the organization. They are big on safety and the quality of our work.

Cons

If you are not an enabler of people, you will have a difficult time. This is not your typical sales job. The work is not done after the sale is made. Ford does a great job providing you with the mentorship, leadership, and resources to execute after the sale is made, but you have to be the leader of your team in order to make sure you exceed your customers expectations.

The very definition of a toxic work environment

Pros

Out of necessity, you will develop a lot of grit and discipline that will make you valuable to your next employer.

Cons

Be careful. I could write a book about Ford. The company culture is hyper-conservative and extremely mistrusting. No budget is allocated to making the work experience more enjoyable. The mentality is more "you should be happy that you have a job at all" than that of a modern tech company as you think of them today. Ford is a company that is stuck in the past. Because they experience steady growth on the business side, they see no need to change with the times and adopt new philosophies that would vastly improve the immense amount of turnover they see every year. In the years I've worked for the company I can safely say the only truly happy people I knew, were extremely senior upper management (and even they had their constant frustrations). I think middle management has the most difficult time. They often do the best they can to make the work experience enjoyable but are often hamstrung by upper management and the CEO. Any creature comforts you find in any office will be entirely employee paid for. No coffee, no snacks, no areas where you can get away from your desk for a moment to clear your mind. People who come from companies where they were taken care of by their employees in the past, will find Ford soul-crushing, and won't last long. Those that do will spend their time waiting for a career advancement opportunity that will never come. Your best bet for survival is if you come from extremely difficult work environments, or have no work experience at all. So if you are looking at working in the tech sector, be leery. Below market wages, and untold amounts of micromanagement await.
