Pros

Best balance I've ever had in a workplace. The pace is fast and the work is challenging, but the environment and people are positive and the benefits are fantastic, so I don't mind putting in the hard work. I think of it as a good-stress vs. bad-stress type of environment. Also - great culture. Happy hours, dog days, holiday parties, cookouts, plenty of beer. Those perks really do make small differences that add up.

Cons

It's stressful, for sure. Fast pace, challenges bubble up at a moment's notice. It can be rewarding, but you have to be your own advocate to make sure you're getting the mental breaks and balance you need. That said, the couple times I've needed to speak up about bandwidth, I've been listened to, which makes a big difference in the employee experience.

Pros

As a former field market manager, I did enjoy the relatively flexible schedule with an "as long as the work gets done" expectation. Depending on who your direct manager is, experiences can vary. I will say that at one point the company invested significantly in developing their managers with TTT and soft skills sessions. Full-time field staff during my tenure was one of the greatest groups of managers with whom I have ever worked. I count many of them as close friends with whom I still keep in touch to this day.

Cons

Sometimes unrealistic client expectations coupled with what we saw in the field as relatively little ability/willingness on GMR's part to push back, manage expectations, and/or advise different courses of action. In my relatively long stint with the company, I saw markets open and close multiple times, which is no way to operate a successful long-term program. Depending on the program on which one is working, one may find oneself extremely isolated from the agency's other business, even as it takes place literally down the street from what one is currently doing. Zero lateral movement from what I saw in my years there. The only cross-program communication I ever received was when office staff needed strategic market insight or had staffing needs. Slightly less than 100% chance that one needs to move to Wisconsin in order to move up with the company. Compensation was not in line with cost of living in the more expensive markets, almost laughably so.

GMR Marketing Response

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately because of the fast paced nature of our business, programs are constantly changing. One day is never the same as the next. That can be very exciting, but is quite challenging when it comes to market communication. Cross-Program communication can get delayed or twisted through the different channels as many people focus on their core responsibilities. Management is constantly trying to improve communication styles to be able to relay a consistent message to field and corporate staff executing in many different cities across the country, GMR has always been known for being innovative and pushing the limits. While it may seem that expectations are unrealistic, it is our goal to continue to improve our capabilities by pushing the limits and surpassing all expectations that our clients set and GMR places on itself. At times it means having to make the tough decisions of opening and closing markets. While closing markets is not something we ever want to do, at times it is needed to allocate resources to areas with the greatest potential and allows us to push the limit.

Cons

I don't have any cons to share at this time.
